CCleaner trying to load Avast

I just attempted to download CCleaner Free from it’s host site and was warned away by my ESET security program. Searching forum history I see mention of this issue in the past, and that it’s been resolved (as in discontinued). I would like to use CCleaner, but this type of deception turns me off. I tried to upload a screenshot of the ESET warning I received, but was told that ‘media uploads’ weren’t allowed. Any comments?

CCleaner may/will offer you other things, such as Avast antivirus, from time to time, but it does not download anything else without asking you very clearly first, and giving you a clear chance to refuse…

I suspect that what you are actually seeing is a a False Positive with ESET flagging up “avcdn. net”

So what is happening is that CCleaner is trying to download some CCleaner files (not any Avast files) using the Avast Content Delivery Network.
However your ESET has decided for some reason that it currently doesn’t like “avcdn. net” .
ESET will probably change it’s mind in a day or two, that’s the way it goes with False Positives in AVs, usually a case of ‘here today gone tomorrow’ - until the next time.

A number of AV’s will occasionally flag “avcdn. net” as being ‘suspicious’ when in fact it isn’t.
The usually stop flagging it after a few days or a couple of weeks.

avcdn. net is the ‘Avast Content Delivery Network’.

Content Delivery Networks are large numbers of servers linked together and used to quickly deliver files as needed by users, usually when downloading software.

The ‘Avast Content Delivery Network’ is one such CDN, and is used by all the companies who are a part of Gen Digital, including CCleaner, Norton, AVG, etc…
Why pay someone like Amazon or Cloudflare to use their CDN when one of your sister companies already owns a CDN of their own?
