CCleaner for Mac stops working and requires deletion and frequent reinstallation or it won’t launch. After reinstall a few days later it quits launching until it’s deleted and reinstalled. I’ve had to do this almost monthly for several months. Very annoying.
Hi @Oxerto,
If you experience this issue again, please try the following steps:
-
Open Terminal (you can find it via Spotlight — press ⌘ + Space and type “Terminal”)
-
Copy and paste the following command exactly as shown, then press Return:
/bin/launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.piriform.ccleaner.plist
- Once the command has run, try launching CCleaner again by double-clicking the icon.
If you have any issues please message me back.
I copied the command just as it appears in your reply and pasted it into Terminal. Terminal returned the following:
Load failed: 5: Input/output error
Try running `launchctl bootstrap` as root for richer errors.
Hi @Oxerto,
Thanks for trying that — the error indicates the command needs to be run with administrator privileges. Could you please try the following instead:
-
Open Terminal again
-
Copy and paste this command, then press Return:
sudo /bin/launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.piriform.ccleaner.plist
- You will be prompted to enter your Mac password — type it in (nothing will appear on screen as you type) and press Return.
Once done, try launching CCleaner as normal and let me know if it opens successfully.
Thanks for the updated command line for terminal Laurence. Here is what Terminal returned:
iMac:~ richardptrejo$ sudo /bin/launchctl load -w /Library/LaunchAgents/com.piriform.ccleaner.plist
Password: ****************** (after PWD entered)
Warning: Expecting a LaunchDaemons path since the command was run as root. Got LaunchAgents instead.
`launchctl bootstrap` is a recommended alternative.
Load failed: 5: Input/output error
Try running `launchctl bootstrap` as root for richer errors.
