ccleaner on Windows Vista

Hi Folks;

I'm new here to this forum but I've been using ccleaner for many years. I'm having a challenge with ccleaner and Windows Vista.

My dad's computer was recently updated from Windows XP to Windows Vista. He is currently running ccleaner version 5.12. I'm trying to update him to version 5.16. Unfortunately, he lives 500 miles away so we work on his computer via Team Viewer.

I can download it without issue, but when I try to install it, it just hangs and won't do anything. I've disabled the user account control settings in an effort to make it work but that didn't help.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. And just so I don't get hassled about it, I intend on upgrading him again to Windows 7 when I go to see him next, but until then, I'm hoping to find a solution to this problem with updating his ccleaner.

Thank you in advance.

first guess is maybe his AV software is baulking at the embedded Chrome offer.

to verify, try the Slim or Portable builds from here; https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Thank you for your reply. I have him running a paid business edition version of AVG, which has never given us a headache in relation to Ccleaner in either XP or Win7. That said, I can give it a try to turn off his AV when I try to install the 5.16 version of CCleaner. Failing that, I can also try the lighter versions you recommended.

i think avg doesnt hinder the installation of ccleaner...
