since I installed CCleaner on Win 7 Premium final... everytime I run "Cleaner" and Reg?stry" I cannot longer "save or run" downloaded software.
Clicking on a download link.. does not open the window, where you can choose "save or run".. but just a window where nothing happens..If I reboot the PC then it work again.
I use the same setting I used on Vista SP2.. and it worked fin there.
Try not using the registry cleaner for a couple of days and see if the problem comes back. Maybe the best course of action is to try and isoate it to either the cleaner section or the registry. At that point we can narrow it down further.
(and the same occurs for me ~22% that ieprivacy keeper cleans (which happens each time I close the last browser window)
the Cache is becoming corrupt. I'm still testing out how exactly to stop this from occuring. Strangly this is something that used to occur with ie6 back in the day.
however currently when it occurs
I delete the actual index.dat it the cache folder
I run the inbuilt IE history delete
then I reboot the computer
(logging off was NOT enough)
and then I can download again.
This may seem extreme however my first routine was reset ie and install all my freaking accelorators and search providers, so this is easier.
Watching this thread and will come back as I learn more.
..I unticked "index.dat files" and since then it's not occurring anymore.
I tried now about 10 times.. no issues.
So please try to find out why this is happening iv "index.dat files" is ticked.
PS: even without untick "index.dat files" rebooting has always solved the issue, until CCleaner runs again", log off not enough. But.. this is not a solution

if you have ie in protected mode (which it is by default) all dat files are kept in c:\windows\temp and get deleted even if index dat is unticked. I had to exclude this dat for a while til I figured that out

Putting dat file in exclusion list did not solve the issue..
