CCleaner not working after update

CCleaner stopped working on both of my computers after the recent update. Both computers run windows 10 and are up to date. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but have the same problem. I have the free version on my laptop and Pro on my PC. Is there a fix for this bug?

Some users are having issues with v5.65 that seem to be due to antivirus programmes not recognising it yet.

Trend Micro seems to be a particular problem, and possibly McAfee.

Hopefully this may calm down in a few days as the AVs update their definitions.

If you are one of the affected users then for now we suggest re-installing and using a previous version, v5.64 or v5.63, which can be found under 'Older Versions' on the right of: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Note that you will have to use the older version in Free mode.

If you register an older version then it will immediately update itself, leaving you were you were at the start.

For those of you using Trend Micro, if you go to the settings and go to the Exceptions list and add the folder for CCleaner (C:\Program Files\CCleaner) to the exception list, you will be able to run the update. Uninstall and reinstall CCleaner, then open it and run Check for updates and it will be working again. Hope this helps.

This is a known issue with trend micro. Try a Whitelist ccleaner in trend micro. You'll need to consult with trend micro on how to do that.

Upgrading Trend Micro Security software to the latest version. Chrome Operating System is currently incompatible with the Trend Micro Software.

Talked with an agent of Trend Micro this morning about what they meant about that. His answer "No, it is chromebook, a type of operating system, but we've updated our software and it is also compatible with chromebook users". It's not about Chrome browser.

Another user reports that once Trend Micro is updated to 2020 then CCleaner works as expected again.

Updating Trend Micro from within Trend Micro itself will tell you that you are up to date - but you may not be.

You may have the 2018 or 2019 versions of TM, so while that is up to date itself - it is not the latest TM version.

You may need to download and install the TM 2020 upgrade - go to this page to 'grab' the 2020 upgrade.

Well, after much "Googling" and reading other users with similar problems I found a FIX. I have been using CCleaner for many years and this is the first time I have had a problem. In most cases everything pointed to Trend Security. To fix the problem ended up quite simple.

1. Open Trend Micro Toolbar

2. Navigate to Protection Settings (see image below)

3. Select Exception Lists and then Programs/folders

4. CCleaner application is normally defaulted after installation to your PC under "C" Drive Programs Files. It will be filed there as C:|Program Files\CCleaner .

5. Under Trend now go to Programs/folders under Protection Settings, select +Add menu then paste in C:|Program Files\CCleaner

5. Then Apply and OK. I have two PC's, one has the free version and the other has the Pro Version of CCleaner. They now both work perfectly......good luck. I was not able to contact Trend as they are only open for support Mon-Fri.

CCleaner no longer runs from clicking the icon on the desktop. The problem started after installing the latest release. I will try one of the older releases. This isn't cool to find that it hasn't been fixed in a month!! (today = May 2, 2020). It ONLY runs at completion of re-installing.

?? Couldn't find or download older "Free" version. Got th;e pro version ..

Older versions are located on FileHippo, located on the right-side of the page:
