Ccleaner not erasing all cookies

Okay I read the problems with AVG 2011 so I decided to uninstall it and then got rid of all traces left after uninstall. Then I uninstalled Ccleaner and then got rid of all traces from it. Next I cleaned my registry did defrag then I restarted my machine then I installed the new version of Ccleaner 3.0 and it is still not cleaning everything I only say this because for a long time I was averaging between 60mb up to 120mb a day that was being cleaned by Ccleaner. My habits have not changed as far as what I do on a daily basis it is the same day in and day out. Also I have installed Avast thinking that that would fix the issue that I had with AVG 2011. Iam not an IT guy I do know a little about computers however I do know there is an issue somewhere maybe im missing it or I have caused it but any help would be greatly appreciated. I did like Ccleaner alot when it did work ! Thanks again :)

Interesting, because I have been having the same problem since two updates back. I have CCleaner on two computers, one Vista and the other XP. The Vista is hardly used, but it will wipe stacks of MB off, and the XP I am using all the time, and only wipes KBs off. There must be a bug in the system somewhere.

Well since I havent gotten an answer yet I once again uninstalled Ccleaner and went and got an older version 2.35 and I still have the same issue. I do so hope that the powers that be at Piriform finds and answer to this or at the very answers me back !

I'm not sure what "issues with AVG 2011" you mean. Can you download an older version of ccleaner (one that gave you the larger amount) run analyis and save it to a log (right click results and choose save to text file). Then re-download version 3 and do the same. Then post both versions.

@wop2 I don't see how this relates to you issue

Okay I will go back father than version 2.35 and see what happens according to your instructions !

Okay I went back to version 2.30 of Ccleaner saved it to text file after Analyze, Then I uninstalled it and then downloaded version 3.0 of Ccleaner and saved it to text file after Analyze both are close as to what they found as far as size wise I do not know how far back I would have to go in the Versions of Ccleaner I do know that until recently when I used the program everyday it was very consistent as to the amount of megabytes it cleaned and then all of the sudden it dropped dramatically. Then I was searching through all your reports on your site and found an issue with AVG 2011 that left behind a bit named AV9 that caused issues with Ccleaner so I got rid of AVG 2011 and went to Avast. I also have the newest versions of Lavasofts "AdAware" and "Spybot Search & Destroy" on my system and use them once a week. My habits are very consistent on the computer on a day to day basis as to what I do and where I go online. By the way Thankyou very much for replying to this post it is very appreciated ! I have attached both text files from Analyze in there perspective versions.

version 2.30.txt

version 3.0.txt

I see no difference in the two files you posted

version 2.3 found "3.31 MB to be removed. (Approximate size)"

version 3 found MORE "3.35 MB to be removed. (Approximate size)"

I'm not seeing the issue here

< = Version 2.3

> = Version 3.0

I think (perhaps) the issue (as you ARE using windows XP) may be that previously you had many hotfixes to clean (checkbox Hotfix uninstallers and maybe now it's either not checked, or you have fewer uninstallers

for the AVG thing the only "issue" was

  • uninstalling AVG 9 left a reg entry behind allowing it to still be detected by ccleaner
  • AVG 2010 was (at that time) not supported by ccleaner (which it was then immediatly added to Winapp2 and is now supported in ccleaner with out aid of winapp2)

There was no point where AVG was causing CCleaner not to work though

Thankyou for your time and patience im sorry that I have lead you to believe something was wrong when it really wasnt ! Have a great night !

Could be your A.V. that changed, not your habits.

Perhaps AVG creates 60 MB more junk that Avast.
