ccleaner not cleaning firefox

I'm working with ccleaner 2.34.12 and firefox 3.6.8- Ccleaner has always worked just fine under these parameters, but recently I had to reformat my hard drive. Ever since then, ccleaner no longer cleans anything from firefox. I am using the same builds as before, and have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling both applications, but nothing seems to work. Even under detailed views, firefox is not being cleaned- cookies, cache, history, nothing. I'm not sure what to do about this. I have been using ccleaner and firefox for sometime now, and have been through all of the advanced settings, and cannot seem to figure it out. Any help might be useful.

Before running ccleaner open task manager and make sure there is no firefox.exe running in the processes tab

Yes, I checked that and there are no open firefox processes. However, during the cleaning process, it says it's cleaning firefox, but it's not showing up in the post-clean results (not even in the "detailed" view). It actually appears not to be cleaning anything other than the system, and my anti-virus logs. It would normally at least say that it cleaned 0kb 0files, but I'm getting nothing, which is unusual.

Oh, and everything I want to clean is showing up under windows and applications, and is 'ticked'

If CCleaner doesn't clear something, it does not output 0kb in 0 files, it just does not show a result.

some more info- It's cleaning files (cache, history, etc.) from IE, and I never use IE. Almost as if it thinks IE is FF.

That's not true. I get results all the time that say firefox internet cache 0kb 0files. This is what I see when I run the cleaner when firefox is running, and it skips cleaning it (see attached).

That's not the point. Right now, I'm getting nothing at all and firefox is not running (as I have stated previously). It's only showing system, ZoneAlarm, IE (which I don't use) and nothing else, even though the progress bar says everything is being cleaned. So the issue is not just with FF, but that's my main concern.

You only get the 0files - 0kb if firefox.exe is running while ccleaner is cleaning / scanning. If firefox.exe is not running, it will clean it. If you run it again, firefox will show no results.

Check task manager for firefox.exe

Also regardless of what you use, there will always be "temporary internet files" from the IE tab found.

Everything you said, I've already addressed in my previous posts. There are no firefox.exe processes running, the progress bar shows that it's cleaning firefox, yet I get no results shown that it did. It also does not clean the flash player or anything other than system, zonealarm, and IE. I understand that if there is nothing to clean, then it won't clean them (or show results), that's why I'm not concerned about anything other than firefox and the flash player, as I use those two all the time. It should be cleaning them out. As I've also stated, uninstalling and re installing does not fix the problem- this has only been a problem since my reformat. I was using the same builds before, as well, and it worked just fine. could it be a registry issue? I have cleaned the registry, and may have deleted something that I needed without realizing it. If it could be that, what should I look to recover? If not, any other ideas? thanks for clearing up the IE issue.

so, no other ideas, huh? Is that all you guys got?

Did your reinstall of your operating system follow a normal path? You didn't change anything with your operating system at all?

What is your OS?

Any other user profiles on the computer?

Right click my computer icon, properties, advanced and look at the user profiles. Anything odd?

Also use the environmental variables button at the bottom and see where it says the temp files are.

Can you clean in Safe Mode?

See if it works in Safe Mode if you can, then post the results here.

Also, what OS did you put back on the computer & what SP does it have?

Did you re-install to a C: drive, or D:, E:, etc?

When you re-installed, was it a clean install, upgrade install, dual boot?

When you deleted reg entries, did you check if you can fix it by a Sys Restore to a date prior to that?

Thanks!

thanks for the ideas, but my OS is running just fine. no oddities anywhere, no other profiles, nothing different than before. clean install into my C: with windows xp pro sp3.

I would like to revise my original statement: As Ccleaner runs, it says its cleaning firefox, it just doesn't post any results (except if firefox is open, it posts that it was skipped). It does not appear to be cleaning adobe flash player, though. I have uninstalled and reinstalled ccleaner, firefox, and adobe flash player, and still no changes. So before I do anything else, I just wanted to make that right. I still don't believe it has anything to do with the OS as everything else works perfectly, as it always has. Also, as a revision, this was an issue right from the start- immediately after the initial installation, and before I ran the registry cleaner. Ccleaner was one of the first prog installs I did, so sys restore would set me back quite a ways, and I'd like to avoid it if I can. Does this change your thoughts? I have not checked on safe mode yet- I'll get back to you, if you still think I should.

Thanks

Couple things,

First "IE which I don't use" is a false statement. You may not use Internet explorer to browse the internet, but your machine uses it for many programs as well as for windows it self, thus it still creates junk.

Second You mention Zone Alarm. Does ZA have file protection, and if so is it turned on? This may be what is occurring since it is occurring which many program entries in CCleaner

Third

Don't be rude or nobody will help at all, you posted this less than 24 hours after the previous reply. We are all Volunteers here, and nobody is being paid to help you on this forum we can only answer so fast and can only provide you based upon the information you provide

The title of this thread mentions firefox as does the first post, there's no way for us to have known

It's only showing system, ZoneAlarm, IE . . . even though the progress bar says everything is being cleaned. So the issue is not just with FF, but that's my main concern.

Please do the following. go into CCleaner options and advanced place a check mark in "save all settings to INI file" and exit CCleaner

then post that file (CCleaner.ini) in this thread.

Again, rudeness will get you zero aid, so remember this if you want help.
