CCleaner not auto updating

CCleaner v4.10 was released on January 23rd and I still haven't received the update notification from v4.09. CCleaner has never failed to check for updates in the past and the box in Settings for CCleaner to automatically check for updates is checked. My computer is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with Microsoft Security Essentials. Any help is desperately needed. Thank you!

the free version doesn't auto update, it's only the Pro version I thought did that.

May be a bug cos the free versions should still be getting the notification.

Check again your settings: Options\ Settings\ ☑Automatically check for updates to CCleaner

If you have Options\ Advanced\ ☑Save all settings to INI file, then

in your computer Program Files you'll see\ CCleaner\ ccleaner Configuration settings\ UpdateCheck=1

No that setting Options\Advanced\Save all settings to INI file isn't checked. Is that why it's not checking for updates?

Is that why it's not checking for updates?

No. That would have no effect. I just wanted you to see how the program keeps the setting in the INI file, and that they should agree.

The INI is a configuration file. If I wanted to reinstall CCleaner I'd first drag away the INI file, then later drag it back to the CCleaner folder after reinstallation, therefore I wouldn't have to tweak all those settings again.

Unless another user has this issue, I'd guess your program is slightly corrupted. But we can't be certain unless you do a clean reinstall.

Why not wait a bit for response from other users before deciding?

I'm reluctant to reinstall because if I do I'd be willing to bet anything it'll happen again. I don't see how it could be corrupted it seemed to install fine and it cleans my system successfully. I thought maybe Windows Firewall was blocking its auto update because Adobe Reader wasn't auto updating either so I turned off Windows Firewall, rebooted and when Windows started up Adobe Reader installed the latest update but CCleaner was still sitting on its ass. Could a registry entry be blocking it?

Registry? I dunno.

Since you had concurrent trubbs with Adobe, that points to your system as a possible cause.

Maybe CCleaner notifies an update only once, and you certainly don't want to turn off the firewall for awhile just for updates.

I don't use the update notifier cos I monitor the forums often enough to be aware of any updates. :)

Yeah, I understand your reluctance to reinstall.

Wait take a look at this http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/changing-ccleaner-settings. Now look at what it says under "to check for updates to CCleaner automatically:".

No. I don't have ☐check for updates ticked.

I may go weeks with an old version. I don't need the latest.

Edit: Stitch, you edited your post while I was replying. Your post asked if I was notified when I ran CCleaner.

Seems to me that you should get another notification for the update around 1st/2nd February.

As kroozer said, that fact that you also had problems with other software update notifications points to your system as being the cause.

Or it could've been a coincidence that Adobe Reader just didn't check for an update until I rebooted my computer that time. Btw simply viewing your Startup programs in CCleaner won't change any of the settings for those programs unless you click Enable or Disable right?

Simply viewing your startups in ccleaner will not change any of their options.

You will see the settings for each startup say enabled yes or no next to it.

If you're having auto update issues in multiple programs it may be time to reboot your broadband modem. Sometimes they do need a reboot to refresh their RAM, and to also fix other possible network issues. My ISP recommends doing that once per week.

Oh well my Comcast router constantly needs to be reset by unplugging it from the AC outlet and plugging it back in because it's always losing its connection to wireless devices. Did that last week.

From what i understand, you're better off using smoke signals and RFC1149 than Comcast
