CCleaner no longer works

I've used CCleaner free for at least 10 years and have never had a problem with it not running. . . until today. Have the latest version (5.7). It starts to run the Cleaner, the progress bar gets about 1/2 way across, and a message pops up saying "CCleans has stopped working". I have

  • rebooted the computer
  • tried to run CCleaner in Safe Mode
  • reinstalled it
  • uninstalled an optional Windows update that I installed just before running CCleaner
  • disabled Avast before running CCleaner
  • run Avast and Malwarebytes scans. Neither finds anything.
  • run a System Restore (to recommended point)

None of this solved the issue.

My OS on this computer is Win 7. I also have it on my laptop, which runs Win 10. CCleaner works on it.

What's wrong?

Never mind! Although I had reinstalled CCleaner, I did not first uninstall it; just ran a re-installation, thinking it would overwrite the original installation. Apparently doesn't do that. After uninstalling (thoroughly. . . using Revo Uninstaller), then doing a fresh install, CCleaner now works.
