CCleaner interfering with mouse

Hello, I am running Windows 11 and use CCleaner daily and it sits idle on my desktop until I open it. I have traced that from time to time during the day (10 to 15 times), my mouse stops working and the cursor disappears and I get a beeping sound. After 5-7 seconds my mouse reappears and I can use it. This usually repeats 3-4 times in a row with 2-3 second between events; then things go back to normal for a few hours. It has been truly annoying and I traced it to CCleaner by keeping task manager open and seeing which app changed CPU usage and memory when it happened. CCleaner was the only app that changed.

Is this a known bug? i do not want to have to install CCleaner every time I want to use it.

Thanks

Hi @Birdjaguar,
Please could you uninstall CCleaner and let me know if you continue to experience the issue.

@laurence_ccleaner I did so yesterday after getting your email. It has now been 24 hours and my issue has completely disappeared. The very annoying mouse issue where I lost control and sight of my mouse repeatedly (2-3 times an hour) for 3-10 seconds at a time. That synced with changes in the app usage showing in Task manager. The problem rarely (but did show itself from time to time) in games). It usually happened as I moved around in my browser tabs or if I opened a program outside of my browser. I have not been able to identify what kinds of specific actions triggered the events. They seem mostly random.

My system:

  • Windows 11 64 bit

  • Razer Death Adder wired mouse

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X 8 core processor

  • Vivaldi Browser

  • 32 GB ram

  • Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 Ti

Thank you for confirming the issue went away after uninstalling CCleaner.
Please could you reinstall CCleaner, wait for the issue to occur again and follow these steps to help us investigate the issue:

  1. Replicate the issue on your end.
  2. In CCleaner, scroll to the bottom of the left-hand menu and click Help.
  3. Select CCleaner Support Tool from the options.
  4. Download and install the CCleaner Support Tool.
  5. Once installed, run the tool to generate the logs.
  6. At the end of the process, you’ll receive a 5-digit File ID.
  7. Please share that File ID with me so I can review the logs and investigate further.

If you have any issues, please let me know.

It has been going on two days now since I reinstalled Ccleaner 7. And…not even a whisper of of the mouse problem has appeared. That is good news. I will of course notice if it returns and look for some change that could have triggered it. So far so good!

@Laurence_CCleaner And it started up again today. I launched the tool and have the file, but I cannot attach it to this reply. How should I send it to you? It is a zip file. GAYFD is the file ID.

@Laurence_CCleaner Any news on the log files I sent or solutions tot he problem? I would like to be able to use CCleaner again.

Hi @Birdjaguar,
Please run Driver Updater and let us know if the issue occurs during the scan?
If not, uninstall CCleaner, then install CCleaner and run Driver Updater again and advise if you experence the issue during the scan. Please note that you need to fully uninstall CCleaner and not just reinstall over the existing CCleaner installation will not be sufficient.

Hello, I’ve been traveling and just got back today. I will run your instructions later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks!

Hello. I have had Ccleaner uninstalled since my previous posting. I used Windows uninstall to do so. Today I downloaded a fresh exe file and installed Ccleaner again. I opened Task manager to watch how things were going. Once installed I added my subscription key and ran the health check. I ran driver updater and updated 4 drivers. I ran the software updater and had 7 apps that needed updates. 5 went well 2 failed with error message 4: zoom and Nvidia app. No mouse issues so far. So I will leave Ccleaner running and see how things go. The Invidia driver updated without a problem.

Hello Laurence, it has been over 24 hours since I reinstalled Ccleaner. So far there have been mouse issues as I experienced earlier. I will keep it installed to see if the trend continues. Can you explain what you have changed or how this install is different? Ccleaner still shows up as a persistent service in task manager.

Do you mean there have been or haven’t been mouse issues like before? Your sentence structure seems to say the latter but the word seem to say the former.

Lol thanks for your comment. I left out “no”. My post should read: “So far there have been no mouse issues as I experienced earlier”. My brain is faster than my fingers…..

It has been a few days now and Ccleaner seems to back to its previous self with regards to my mouse problems: None so far since my last install! I run it daily before I shut things down for the night and it is present in task manager as a background process service while my computer is on.

How did this magic happen?

Thanks for updating us @Birdjaguar please let me know if you experience the issue in the future.

Awesome work. Thanks very much.

And after three days, it is back. Late last night CCleaner began once again to impact my mouse. This morning it has gotten worse and when I use my mouse (Razer Deathadder V3 model #rz01-0464) CCleaner grabs 1-3% of my CPU and the cursor disappears with a cute chirp sound that continues for 3 to 8 seconds. Using my mouse seems to provoke the action. No fun at all. So, I replaced my year old Deathadder with my older one that dates back about 5 years, a Razer Deathadder Elite model #rz01-0201. The problem immediately disappeared. I will keep using the old mouse today to see if that solution sticks for now. Both mice? are wired via usb connections. My amateur guess would say that some recent change to CCleaner softwear is interfering with the newer version of the Deathadder mouse.

@Laurence_CCleaner see above post.

@Birdjaguar, did you experience the issue again while using the older Razer Deathadder Elite model #rz01-0201?

I have had no issues at all since I changed out my mouse 5 days ago to my Deathadder elite RZo1-0201 and task master has not shown any unexpected CCleaner activity while sitting quietly in the background.
