I ran ccleaner's Registry cleaner in Vista. I clicked the options to save backup copies of deleted entries. To my dismay all my desktop icons disappeared--the icons only, not the shortcuts. I can bring them back by changing the icon size, but when I boot up again, they are all gone. I tried to restore the backup files. THEY were gone, too. Any advice?
