CCleaner gets stuck at 20% in cleaning option.

Dear Forum,

Running latest version of Piriform CCleaner with Secure File Deletion set to: Complex Overwrite 7 passes.

Under Cleaner Option. I analyze system and it reports what files are to be cleaned and their size.

The problem occurs when I try to erase files on my system.

Program hangs at 20% into cleaning and no further progress occurs. Left to run for nearly 1 hour with no progress beyond 20%.

Does this everytime I try to clean my PC.

Never had this problem before with previous versions of CCleaner

System Details:

Windows XP Professional Version 2002, with SP3 and all latest service updates loaded onto system

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 ( 3.4GHz ) with 2GB of RAM

Which file or area does it hang at?

What happens if you don't use 7 passes (not really necessary, one is enough)

What happens if you boot into Windows safe mode and run ccleaner, does it finish then?

What security software are you using?

Having the same issue; seems to be when I don't use secure delete that it does get to the end.

Seems to be temporary files; I looked for the specific file it was hung on and it does not exist.

In my case if it does get stuck my whole OS needs to be hard rebooted.

Using Bit Defener Anti Virus

Unlikely the same issue, please start your own thread and attach a debug report to that thread.

@tonyroo, have you tried running it from Safe Mode, and have you temporarily disabled your AV to see if CC runs to completion then?

@TonyRoo please, as I said answer any questions posed to you in a seperate thread. thanks

I don't want this thread separating from @scottie4659's query

whoops - too late.

Just ignore the topic hijackers - they ignore what is already posted so why bother with them here

Sorry Nergal and mta, did not mean to highjack the thread.

I have removed and posted in a new thread.

As a newbie, I had almost the same problem as the OP, that is why I posted my question in that thread. I made a mistake, and corrected it ASAP.

I have read what has already been posted thanks and also the forum rules.

I suggest you read them, in particular, rule number 1 and try to live up to both the letter and spirit of that rule.

I am sorry but yours was the second hijack and things appeared out of control,

and even worse, so far as I recall, this last one appeared overly long.

Thanks for the much shorter topic in the Discussion forum.
