ccleaner freezes when trying to clean google chrome cache

hi,

my laptop has been freezing and locking up lately more and more, especially while watching videos. I dled ccleaner to try to help it out a bit. every time I try to run the cleaner, it freezes at "google chrome internet cache" and becomes unresponsive so that I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. help! my computer has crashed about ten times today and it's really bumming me out.

windows 7 home premium 64-bit SP 1

intel core i3-2350m cpu @ 2.3 ghz, 6.0 ram

thank you for any suggestions.

Have you tried first opening Chrome and cleaning from inside the browser itself?

When you say your computer has crashed, do you mean your Chrome browser crashed or your machine crashed and shut down?

have you seen this pinned topic

I have cleared the cache from inside chrome.

when i say crashed, I mean that everything on the computer locks up and becomes unresponsive. the mouse still moves but nothing responds to being clicked. ctrl/alt/delete does nothing as well.

I did see that pinned topic. the 'run in the background' box is unchecked and I unsynced my history. same problem, ccleaner & my entire computer lock up at "google chrome internet cache".

In the Chrome settings for managing your search engines, is Google the only one listed?

What anti virus do you use?

there were some other ones listed but I cleared them. google was the default one. I use the antivirus included with chrome.

What is the name of the anti virus included with Chrome?

I don't think chrome has an antivirus, only a (very basic form of anti-malware called a) Malicious File Blocker. While this is a fine front line fighter, it does not leave you safe nor protected. Usually, at least in the U.S., your ISP should provide a Commercial Antivirus for free and there are many well thought of freeware alternatives out there

I'd imagine CCleaner could cause a crash if Chrome's cache is corrupt or possibly infected. Also if need be you can manually delete Chrome cache if even Chrome can't delete it.

i scanned my system with malwarebytes and it came back clean. I also tried to uninstall chrome which repeatedly has also frozen the system.

You haven't answered the question about which anti virus you have (the name of it please)

Boot into safe mode and try to uninstall Chrome that way (ask if you need help doing that)

as nergal stated above, I guess what I've been using isn't actually an antivirus. whoops.

I booted into safe mode and tried to uninstall chrome, locked up and frozen again :/

It may be an idea to have your system checked out at one of the sites mentioned under item 10 here
