CCleaner Free in Business

Sorry, I know that this has been asked before, but I am confused.

Is the free CCleaner okay to use in corporate environments?

In researching this, I found a thread that says yes:

http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=18331

But this was in the License agreement:

You may NOT use the Product in corporate or commercial environments.

Thanks,

CCleaner is free for corporate use.

You may want to explore some of the business options, depending on the scale of your business.

In light of the posts below, I've ex'd my statement out for now.

To remove it would be to deny it ever happened.

Will edit back with the proper information once the Grand Council of the Golden Pear has conferred their verdict.

I would have said the same as Winapp until today, as it has always been that way, but after checking the current Piriform Licence ...

- You may NOT use the Product in corporate or commercial environments.

... it doesn't seem to be that clear any more.

If you hang fire for a short while slart8, one of the other moderators, hazel, is checking this out with the Piriform developers.

Thanks everybody!

If I had to guess, I'd say the change was fairly recent judging by the

appended to the bottom.

So does anyone know if there will be an issue with CCleaner freeware existing in an environment now that the license has changed?

I am awaiting feedback and I'll post as soon as I get it :)

Thanks Hazel, love your tag line BTW. Try to stay calm. :)

We've clarified the EULA in version 3.25 to make it clearer - the terms have not actually changed :)

We are constantly informed about companies who are making money out of our free software. So, we are just trying to make everything clearer and fairer so that CCleaner can stay free for our community, and we can avoid being exploited by other companies.

Thanks MrRon :)

So there you have it, businesses cannot use CCleaner free.

What and where is this EULA ?

Is it this :-

By installing Piriform software (CCleaner, Recuva, Defraggler and Speccy), you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions contained in the EULA (end-user licence agreement) that appears when you run the installation programs. Please refer to that EULA for more information.

http://www.piriform..../privacy-policy

I have just downloaded the portable version of version 3.25,

and when 7Zip extracts (installs) the ccsetup325.zip I see no EULA.

and when I first launch CCleaner64.exe I am offered an intelligent cookie scan,

but the EULA never appears.

I do find that by unzipping the non executable excess baggage of the Lang folder etc I also get License.txt.

Is this the EULA ?

I have compared License.txt versions 3.12 and 3.25

and was horrified by Americanisation that every instance of the noun Licence has become License :o

I notice the recent removal of

"4. ADDITIONAL TERMS FOR BUSINESSES"

I do not see how the removal of restrictions upon a business will remove their permission to do what non-businesses may do.

I notice the recent change to the first line of license.txt from

"Software Licence Agreement" to

"Software License Agreement for Consumers"

Is this the change that prohibits free use by Businesses ?

Is a business now forbidden to use the free version of CCleaner upon any computer that processes calculations or publicity or accounts or invoices or tax returns or business correspondence ?

Is a self-employed sole trader a business ?

I am unsure if MrRon will comment anymore on this but it is a fact that ccleaner is now like many other softwares (Malwarebytes and Sandboxie for example)

It is free for home use only, any other scenario, such as business use, requires a licence.

This will help keep CCleaner free for the millions of users out there, something to be glad of.

Indeed, since companies can often afford to buy the software they use.

The EULA pops up during installation, of course.

If I recommend or install Ccleaner for friends or family, I tell'em it's free for personal use but if they like it and use it they ought'a pay Piriform for it.

I don't do IT stuff for a living (who could've guessed :P ) but if I did, I'd spring for the license that allows me to use it that way. Just to be on the up-and-up.

Latest Version (4.0) explicitly states that :

- You may NOT use the Product in corporate or commercial environments.

However, I have just cheked the EULA for ccleaner 3.0, it states that:

4. ADDITIONAL TERMS FOR BUSINESSES

Where you are licensing the Product as a business and not as a consumer, this licence shall take effect between Piriform and you as a business entity and you shall take all appropriate steps to ensure that the Product is operated in a proper manner by your employees and staff.

Does that mean that we still can use older versions for free?

Maadri, please do not resurrect old threads (your other post on this subject was in a 2006 thread).

You cannot use any Piriform product for business without a licence. If you are using an older version of a product without a support agreement then you should contact Piriform for advice.
