CCleaner free 553 update failed

As soon as I got the notification of an update I followed the link and downloaded the new version 553. However the update failed - first gave an error that a file was invalid, then just froze. Had to use task manager to finally shut it down. Anyone else having issues with the latest update, and any idea what to do about it?

Try downloading the slim version from here on the builds page.

Thank you - this version updated successfully

The same is happening to me (portuguese from Brazil).

I tried the slim version but also presents the same error:

I use a standard account on windows 10 and when I install programs I type the admin password, it always worked well this way. It seems to have been modified in this new version.

Problem solved, at least for me!

I think these Windows 10 updates were interfering with the account authorization process.

After I did these updates everything was resolved and the installation was done normally.

See if anything in here helps, in particular the "Error opening file for writing" error which is very common during install:

I had the same problem. Here's what shows up on my screen when I try to install the upgrade:

This warning is usually accompanied by ccleaner still running. Make sure ccleaner is fully exited including smart clean monitoring. Check task manager for ccleaner.exe or ccleaner64.exe. Kill those instances then manually delete the file c:\program files\ccleaner\ccleaner.exe (or the file listed in the error message). Finally click retry.
