Hi all. I wanted to mention a thread over at the AMD forums where one member claims that CrapCleaner deleted his bookmarks from Firefox. Since I'm a user of CrapCleaner for over 2 years and having never had a single problem with it, I wondered if the guy was mistaken. I'm not saying the program is flawless, what software is? I'm just suprised that someone claimed this great program wiped out bookmarks from Firefox.
The thread is here:

I haven't ever seen it do this before, and this is the first time its been brought up on the forum as well. I'm going to say CCleaner could not have been the cause.
The only issue that CCleaner has is this:

To avoid that all you have to do is close firefox when cleaning.
Edit:
It looks like window washer is a wonderful program. ![:P]()
I haven't known of CCleaner deleting Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks. I would suggest closing Mozilla Firefox before before running CCleaner to help avoid this problem.
That is all I really know of to fix this problem.
I recommend backing up your profile anyways, incase something does happen.
Backing up Mozilla Profiles Manually:

There is also a program:
FireTune for Mozilla Firefox v1.x was developed for an easy and fast optimization of your browsing experience with Firefox. It is based on a collection of popular and well working optimization settings used and tested by the experts. Usually you have to optimize Firefox manually, which can be time consuming and difficult for the novice user.
It also has a backup feature with it.

Thanks for confirming this. I'm certain that CrapCleaner doesn't delete bookmarks and the problem was caused by something else. I use CrapCleaner all the time even with FF open and nothing has ever gone wrong.
TwistedMetal, thanks for the tip. Does FireTune do something similar to the tweaks I included in my Firefox guide?

I regularly browse the Mozillazine Firefox Support forum, and I can tell you that disappearing bookmarks is a frequent problem. It can occur apparently at random.
This was undoubtedly a coincidence, that one user happened to lose bookmarks after running CCleaner.
Informed Firefox users back up their bookmarks regularly, either manually or with the aid of an extension.
I recommend the Bookmark Backup extension, it backs up bookmarks and other browsing data automatically every time the browser is closed:

Well within the past week CCleaner did delete my Opera bookmarks for some unknown reason which really was no problem since I already had them backed up. It only happened on the one occassion and I've been using CCleaner since the end of 2004.
Please note: I couldn't duplicate the problem, so maybe it was just a one-off error, don't really know.
