Although I am using CCleaner for several months now, recently (two days ago I noticed it first and I actually have a task scheduled to run it silently basically on daily basis) it started crashing reproducibly.
CCleaner version: latest (v1.40.520)
OS: MS Windows XP SP2 with all security updates (including the last batch release by MS a day or two ago). Fresh OS instalation was performed 2 months ago.
Antivirus software: Avira Anti-vir PersonalEdition kept up-to-date
Antispyware software: Microsoft Windows Defender (latest version: 1.1.1593.0)
Software firewall: Commodo Firewall Pro (latest version: 2.4.18.184)
Hardware firewall/NAT is also in place
Hardware: Intel Core Duo 6320 running at default speed, 2x1Gb RAM (Corsair) running at default speed, Geforce 8600GT running at default speed, 2x320GB SATA-II drives. At full CPU load, the HDDs/board/CPU temps do not go over 47 deg C.
The crash timepoint:
The CCleaner starts normally, but clicking on "Analyze" or "Run Cleaner" crashes it. Click on "Applications" tab crashes it, but selecting e.g., "Internet Explorer" does not. Interestingly, all this tabs are unselected when I start the CCleaner; I know I haven't had it like this. Left-side panel sections (e.g., "Issues", "Tools", "Options") appear to work normal.
My attempts to resolve this:
chkdsk/r was performed on drive C: to look for disk-related errors. Minor inconsistencies were cleared. It did not help.
Memtest was used to re-check the memory. No errors.
Anti-viral sweep was performed on all drives. No viruses found.
Microsoft Anti-spyware sweep was performed. No spyware found.
Registry clean-up performed by CCleaner itself was performed. A few errors were found and corrected but it did not help.
Reinstallation of the CCleaner. It did not help.
MS VB6.0 installation as mentioned on this forum. It did not help.
Nothing new has been installed recently except for updates (MS/antivirus/antispyware).
My interpertation of the events:
Newest set of MS Windows XP updates caused this problems (please note that does not automatically mean that this is MS-es fault).
Event Manager Output on Crash:
