CCleaner and Acronis Active Protection

At random times, I get a notice from Acronis Active Protection that it had blocked an attempt by CCleaner64.exe to modify a backup file. It gives a file path of C:\Users\Owner\AppDa...E3D9212\hntcgiu4.tib. Why is CCleaner trying to modify a backup file and how can I stop the notifications?

g'day Bob and welcome to the forum,

what are your CC version and build (Free or Pro), OS version, and AV software?

do you have Monitoring turned on in CC?

can you expand the filepath, especially the \Appda...E3 portion?

CC Pro version 5.35 6210 (64) bit, Monitoring on. Windows 10 latest. Windows Defender and Malware Bytes. I finally tracked down the abbreviated file path that Acronis message gave and it is a temp folder that seems to be part of an installation package for a piece of flightsim scenery. How an ATI .tib folder got there, I don't know. Why would CC try to modify the file, because it is in the Temp folder in Appdata?

the only thing CC does to files in Temp folders is delete them.

so I'm guessing, somehow the file or folder has come under the eye of Acronis and when CC tries to delete it, Acronis spits out a warning.

That seems to be the problem. I set up exceptions for those type of Acronis files, but I'd still like to know how they got there. Not CC's problem, though. Thanks.

having not used Acronis before, but with an extension of TIB, what's the chance they are True Image Backup files?

if correct, they are probably the actual backup of your system hence Acronis throwing a wobbly when something tries to delete them.

or they are just 'scratch pad' type of files used by Acronis to do its thing, and can be deleted.

check your Acronis settings as to what is uses the Temp folders for.
