I use CCleaner 7 to clean my Windows computer. Then go to CCleaner 6 and do it again. WOW! CCleaner 7 leaves so much behind. Is CCleaner 7 a joke?
No, - CCleaner 7 is a BETA testing version.
It is not generally available and is only being offered to a limited number of users.
Beta testing versions are usually unfinished; and they will contain bugs.
That is the whole idea of Beta testing versions, they are put out so that users who want to help can try them out which will help to find bugs that can then be fixed before the full release.
If you don’t want to do that testing then stick with the fully released version, currently v6.37.11523
Nukecad, you seem to have misunderstood my comment. Cleaning is the BASIC function of CCleaner. I’m not writing about Performance Optimizers, Driver Updates, Software Updates. or new features in this version. I was writing about the BASIC function of CCleaner found in version 7 that has been in every version before Version 7. How can this be a “bug”? You need to understand, and have empathy, what people are writing before you answer questions in this forum. Have a more positive attitude when you write.
Sorry but it is yourself who has misunderstood the situation with CCleaner 7, and misunderstood just what CCleaner 7 currently is..
CCleaner 7 is not a Fully Released version - it is an unfinished testing version.
As an unfinished version then you cannot expect it to function in the way that a fully released version would function.
I do agree that it should not have been offered to users without a fuller explanation of exactly what it is and that it is an unfinished testing version so will not function the same as a fully released version.
Please read the article that I linked for a fuller explanation of what a Beta Testing version actually is.
So let me get this correct based on your comment above. After seven (7) versions of “Ccleaner” (and years of development and updates) they still cannot get the “cleaner” feature correct?? You state the “cleaning” feature of this cleaning program is still in beta. ok…that gives me little confidence in the programing capabilities of the software engineers and little confidence in a program with “cleaning” in it’s title. Yes, therefore, I don’t think you know what a beta program is. A beta program experiments with new features that are untested and are at a stage in develpment in which it is nearly complete and final. There is NOTHING about the “cleaning” feature of this program that is “beta”. (Yes, the interface has been redesigned) As the company states, “CCleaner beta versions are available for users who want to test new features and provide feedback before they are officially released”. The “cleaning” feature is not “new”.
I’ve been a moderator on the CCleaner forum since 2006 and can tell you that any beta versions will contain, as you say, new features, but will probably when released also include new areas of cleaning. It’s a constant thing as operating systems and browsers evolve and therefore cleaning routines have to be modified.
Yes we do know what beta versions and programs are. Perhaps you may like to stop being a bit disgruntled about advice given to users who are testing without guidance as they were chosen at random (not really the best way is it)
In my own personal opinion some of the beta feedback is collected from the user via ‘calls home’ to Piriform which perhaps some users are not aware of.
I’m not disgruntled at all. I’m just trying to point out that version 6 of Ccleaner cleans better than Version 7. Then I get a response that says, “maybe I should go back to the fully released version” and stop making comments because you do not know what a beta tester does. (How snarky can one person get?) If it contains new areas of cleaning, they are not working as version 6 cleans much better. The collection of data through “calling home” mechanisms should always be transparent and aligned with a clear privacy policy the user should “be aware of”. This is not the best alternative to report bugs and other problems.
Interesting observation! It does seem like CCleaner 7 might be skipping deeper areas that CCleaner 6 still touches—maybe due to newer privacy restrictions or different default settings. Not necessarily a joke, but definitely feels less thorough out of the box.
To tidy things up a bit and try to keep posts about the v7 Beta together in one place.
