CCleaner 7 deleted all the files in my Downloads folder

I had important files in there. How do I get them back?

Restore your important files from your backup.

If you don’t have a formal backup, you still may have a “System Restore Point” with your old files backed up in it.

You do not have to roll your computer back, instead you can surgically mount a restore point and browse through it and choose what you want to copy out of it back to your normal folders.

I think they get wound up here if I mention any other utilities name, even if it is not a competitor to Ccleaner. But I’ll try anyway: google “System Restore Explorer” – it’s an old little app, free, incredibly useful! You can get it from Majorgeeks.

We are not particular bothered about mentioning any valid software, although we will usually remove links to direct competitors software.
How strict we are about that depends on the tone of the thread and maybe on what else is going on on the forum in general.

Just a bit of further advice for @alap
Windows itself regards the Downloads folder as a temporary folder, you should not be storing files in it long term.

Windows itself can/will automatically delete files from the Downloads folder if/when necessary, Storage Sense can be set to remove files from Downloads after so many days,

Again that tells you that Windows regards Downloads as a temporary folder.

The Downloads folder is meant as somewhere to hold downloaded files temporarily until you have finished using them, or move them to other folders.
‘Important’ files should always be moved elsewhere, (and if they are ‘Important’ you should make a backup as well).

Sorry that doesn’t help you here, but it’s something to be aware of and you might want to change your habits about how you store ‘Important’ files in future.

I had CC pro plus and was happy till I got the update that deleted the program and installed CC7. Like many I knew and like the old program. Now I am too old, No time, nor patience to work thru all the new problems that people seem to have.

Now I cannot get to cc pro plus or cc7 pro plus. I paid my money for the pro plus not a pushed free copy of CC7 and lots of wasted time. How can I fix this problem “pain in my Ass” I want to get what I paid for.

Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,

I have already replied to you other post, you still have Pro Plus, however you are misunderstanding just what a Pro Plus licence is, see:
