CCleaner 3.20 will cause Lync 2010 broken

Install Lync 2010 x64 on Windows 7 x64, then run CCleaner 3.20 to cleanup the system. On "CCleaner" tab, click "Analyze" then "Run Cleaner". The Lync 2010 will be broken and try to repir the installation during application startup. This issue always happens.

Yes, I am also having this problem. In fact, it existed with previous versions of Cleaner at least going back to January of this year when I first started using link. To clarify, if I run CCleaner and then subsequently attempt to sign into Lync 2010, instead of simply launching the program it seems as if Windows has to reinstall it. It is as if Ccleaner has uninstalled the program. I've tried tweaking the settings so as to adjust exactly what I clean but cannot solve the problem.

I don't have Lync so can't test, but can you untick the entry for "Lync" or related entries?

I cannot find a reference to the word "Lync" in winapp.ini, are you running the registry cleaner at all?

I guess Lync is based on Windows Live Messenger, also has something to do with Outlook so unticking WLM (and Outlook) entries might help.

I wonder if it is something like the outlook setting delete with the office clean

@zmx01403137 and @Stefan12 will you uncheck any office related items in the ccleaner applications tab and run a clean and see if Lync survives?

If it does right click each of the office items one at a time and check lync after each clean (also copy the results of each clean via right click in the results details screen)

remove anything personally identifiing if you wish1, and then post the results here/

below is everything cleaned by the office 2010 rule (warning it's big) my guess is one of these will need to be excluded (a simple thing to do by doing an analysis, right clicking the results and choosing exclude if it's a file, or via the exclude dialog in options if it 's a registry entry)

I have checked the settings on CCleaner and disabled cleaning of all Office products (including Office picture manager) and also Windows Messenger. Unfortunately this does not seem to make any difference as the problem persists. Not sure if there is any value, with that in mind, in posting the results here? I have already tweaked lots of the other settings, including temporary files, windows log files and others but cannot identify the offending item. Any other ideas wopuld be welcome.

Thanks for the suggestion hazelnut. The article you refer to explains how the sign-in credentials are saved as a digital certificate but I don't think that is the problem as, once it appears to 're-instal' Lync, it still signs me in without prompting so, to my limited understanding, the digital certificate must still be there and hasn't been 'cleaned'. I do not generally clean the DNS cache so that is not the problem either...thanks for your thoughts though.

I should also clarify, with regard to an earlier post, that I am not using the Registry Cleaner at all.

Okay are you willing to go about this the long way?

Untick all cleaning options in ccleaner (starting with the Windows tab) and just enable one at a time and clean.

Then do the Applications tab.

It's long and time consuming but it's the sure fire way to find the culprit so we can flag it to the devs if need be.

May be an idea to take screenies of your present ccleaner tickboxes so you can return them to how they were afterwards.

If you untick the "Internet Explorer/History" checkbox, then the problem disappears.
