CCleaner 2.30 Crashed Vista Business HDD

I am incensed. Shortly after installing CCleaner 2.30 earlier this morning, the computer crashed. I had to rebuild it from the backup DVDs that I made when I bought the machine. This is the 3rd time that CCleaner has crashed my laptop. Obviously CCleaner is incompatible with Vista Business 32 on an HP Compaq 6720s laptop.

Thanks. :MAD

I'd run a hard drive diagnostics test on that laptop of yours ;)

CCleaner 2.30 works on Vista 32-Bit without issue.

It's not incompatible, you've got a busted hard drive.

More than likely you have some bad sectors / clusters on your HDD. CCleaner wouldn't be the cause of it, but during the clean process it could run across those bad sectors and cause a system hang / more problems.

My suggestion is to do two things,

1) Do a diagnostic on the HDD with WDTools from western digital. Check to see if your SMART values are below threshold.

2) Click start

> type in "cmd"

> right click "cmd"

> select "run as administrator"

> in command prompt, type exactly the following:

chkdsk c: /r

> press "Y" to lock the drive

> press "Y" to scan during reboot

Let it scan, keep an eye on it every few minutes, and see if it finds any bad sectors, clusters, file hashes, or missing index entries.

If you get bad sectors and clusters, i would suggest you back up your data and get a new HDD -- Even if the sectors are repaired.
