cclceaner does not uninstall DivX

That's the whole story. DivX shows in the list of applications, but highlighting it and clicking uninstall does nothing. Why? How can I get rid of DivX/

Thanks

Well as all ccleaner does is call the windows uninstaller can you not uninstall it from add/remove programs (or just "programs" in modern OS)

What version of CCleaner (do not just say the latest this means nothing tell us the version as it is listed at the top of ccleaner)

What Version of windows? include Service pack if you have any installed

Hi jaschulz, and welcome to the forum.

I think that's down to the way DivX is installed, and it has a pretty good install and uninstall system.

You normally install DivX as a "bundle", but once installed, the separate components have their own uninstallers, so you can remove them individually, or use the "DivXBundleUninstall.exe" to remove all of them ...

... and in the "Start/All Programs/DivX" menu, you will see the same separate uninstall options including the DivXBundle uninstall option.

CCleaner only lists the separate component uninstallers, but not the Bundle uninstaller as it doesn't have a corresponding exe file.

To do a complete uninstall of DivX, you need to run the "DivXBundle" uninstaller in the Start/All Programs/DivX" menu entry.

Not really the fault of CCleaner, just the way DivX is installed.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Ninja'd me Nergal.

DivX 8 does not list a "DivX Bundle" uninstaller.

I reinstalled DivX 8, and then tried the regular windows installer and it worked.

Thanks.

Glad you got it fixed.

Running a re-install helps put files back that may get removed when you uninstall programs that are similar, or may use similar component folder/registry structures, & wipe out a portion of that program uninstaller.

This make the uninstaller work properly afterwards. You may have problems like this, if you have multiple versions of a program & remove one of them, only to find that you can no longer remove the other because of the shared directory structure(s).

After reading your reply, I decided to have a look at DivX 8 which you'll already realise I don't have, and I'm really pleased I stayed with an older version which included nothing more that the files I showed you in one of my screenshots. That was the way the DivX Bundle install was for a long time.

I still keep the installer for an older Web Player, as that component started to go downhill the more they "upgraded" it.

For anyone interested, compare this screenshot of what I extracted from the DivX 8 installer with my first screenshot in post #3 above, and bear in mind that most of the folders in this tree contain more subfolders, with even more sub folders (sub-sub folders?).

I'm pleased you managed to uninstall it jaschulz, and from what I can see, you're well rid.

I used to use DIVX, but then I started using players like the Haihaisoft media player, or KM/SM/GOM/VLC player, etc.

Don't really need DIVX anymore, since they can play everything the DIVX player could (and then some)

If you're talking about the DivX Player, then I'm like you, I got rid of it a long time ago and use MPlayer, but regarding the "Web Player", that's a browser plugin I couldn't do without.

After learning about DivX's latest incarnation, I would always go with one of the older versions, which are still available ...

I have never used DIVX browser plugin, although I have used Windows WMV browser plugin.

What do u use it for? Does/can it replace the flash player?

No, it isn't any sort of replacement for flash player. DivX has for a long time been the codec of choice for compressing large movie files, and lots use it for compressing stuff like music video files.

There used to be a site called Stage6, which was ran by DivX, but that went belly up some time ago.

Just google DivX, and you'll probably get one or two hits. The files are more commonly tagged with the .avi extension.
