CCCleaner registry cleaner

Seem that when you use the registry cleaner it asks if you want to do a backup.

When you say yes, the backup goes to the "My Documents" folder which isn't a real folder at all.

When I had Internet 9 and Internet 8 trouble not showing all my favorites I could not restore my backup because it could not be found.

That's a Bummer.. I won't be using the registry cleaner in CCCleaner again.

Which Windows & CCleaner version are you using? My Documents is a "real" folder and can be found either in

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\My Documents\

or

Win7 / Vista: C:\Users\[user name]\Documents

Also you could've chose a different folder to save the backup.

Btw. it's CCleaner, not CCCleaner.

Try doing a search for .REG

This is the file type the reg cleaner saves it in.

Also you could've chose a different folder to save the backup.

I personally use an Undo folder located in the CCleaner program folder, makes things easy to find that way. It would be nice if CCleaner had an undo feature built into it for the registry cleaning part!

@Andavari, yes, this would be nice...

But I guess if it were run portably, this would cause problems, unless the files existed on the flash drive instead of running via self extractor.

Even then, likely to cause a mix up (which computer to restore to if cleaning multiple machines?)

Sometime a while back, I believe I suggested a fix, & that is for CC to denote in the name of the saved .REG file (IE, 32 or 64 Bit/OS version + name of machine + timestamp) & include a parser to only allow the right fix to be imported to the right machine. Imperfect, perhaps, but could be beneficial.

Sample: -> 32 Bit 7 - Win7OEMPC - 2:21 PM, or something to that effect. Fake name & time stamp used, merely to illustrate the point.

You can do that yourself when it asks to save, I usually add the computer's name, & it defaults ( I believe) to it's last save location, as all of mine are in the ccleaner folder (on my flash drive)

+1

On wxp home, I have a dedicated folder on an external USB HD. It is called "RegBackups". After saving the first backup there, CCleaner saves them all there unless I designate another folder. I bet it is the same for win7, but don't have win7 so cannot check.
