CC v7 Failed to Detect Obvious Registry Issues

This is a cross post from Help.

I uninstalled Paintshop Pro using Revo Uninstaller and then ran CC v7.

I still had problems so I went thru Registry by hand after running v7 and found many residual keys directly related to the program, see “CCv v7 Failed to Detect Obvious Registry Issues” in CCleaner Windows Help

Tom

I’ve been a CCleaner Professional customer for years, but version 7 has seriously disappointed me.

During a recent software uninstallation cleanup, CCleaner Professional completely failed to detect obvious orphaned registry entries including:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall entries for completely uninstalled software

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\Products entries pointing to non-existent files

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\Components entries

  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer entries (Products, Patches, Components)

These are textbook examples of orphaned registry entries that any registry cleaner should catch.

The older versions of CCleaner showed exactly what entries would be removed before cleaning - this was incredibly useful for power users. Version 7 hides this information and apparently cleans far less aggressively, missing critical orphaned entries.

I had to manually search and delete dozens of registry entries that CCleaner Professional should have found automatically. This defeats the entire purpose of having a registry cleaning tool.

Very disappointing for a paid product that used to be excellent.

Please either:

  1. Restore the detailed view of what will be cleaned

  2. Make the registry scanner more comprehensive

  3. Add an “aggressive” mode for power users
