CC doesn't clean all files found by analysis

I've found that often CC Analysis will "find" "x" mb of files to clean.

When I run the "cleaner", the aggregate of the file size deleted will often be much less that what the analyser suggested would be marked for deletion. The vast majority of these files are in internet temp directories.

For example:

2.72 MB to be removed

(typical) C:\Documents and Settings\User1\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE.5\42BVDK34\****.***

And once I run the cleaner:

0.93 MB removed

Why is this and what does it mean that cleaner will not delete ALL of the selcted files?

Thanks,

brogers

yes, I've noticed this before and have often wondered why the analysis finds more than is actually deleted.

It might be do to the fact thar some files can not be deleted until a reboot.

All of the index.dat files are tagged/marked for deletion but can not be deleted until a reboot.

Windows creates new index.dat files after reboot.

Try check marking OPTIONS->ADVANCED "Show detailed log of Internet Explorer temporary files"

That will help explain it. Good observation!!!

From the help files:

Temporary Files

Many applications use temporary files when working to save information. These are normally deleted upon exit, but occasionally they can be left behind. Normally when the program is not shut down properly. This option will safely delete these files. (By default it only removes files that haven't been used in the last 10 days, this prevents current temp files from being removed. There is an option to turn off this feature on the Options window.)
