Can't undo registry changes using ccleaner reg backup files?

Hi,

So I did a registry clean with Ccleaner and i want to revert the changes made because of a problem i think may have occurred relating to game stuttering.

Every time I try and "Merge" or double click the reg file I am greeted with: Some keys are open by the system or other processes

"Not all data was successfully written to the registry, some keys are open by the system or other processes or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation"

How can i get around this and get my registry back to the way it was?

g'day @Holyplums, welcome to the Forum,

try doing the 'merge' with the PC in Safe Mode.

Hi, thanks.

I did try that it doesn't seem to be working

did you get the same error?

if so, despite the error, it would still have 'merged' back all the stuff it could, just not anything that the system had is use.

so check if your game works now.

also, have you tried Restore Points, rollback to one of those and see if that helps.

of course, your issue may have nothing to do with cleaning the registry at all. <img alt=":)" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20"></p>

and just to state the obvious, the account you log onto the PC with is an Administrator level account yes?

and in Safe Mode, instead of double clicking the .reg file to re-merge it, try starting regedit with Run As Administrator then do a File &gt; Import.

to start regedit that way, click Start, type regedit and in the results, right click regedit.exe and Run as Administrator.
