I recovered all of my deleted video. They are very special to me. When I try to play them I get the message "it may not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress this file".. I am not computer savvy - how do I find the codec used and how to I make it support it (windows media player)? Thank you...............
The files may not be fully intact, and Windows Media Player is choking, or they might be missing the attributes that tell WMP what codecs to use, or you may not have the codecs needed on the machine.
First thing I'd do is download and install VLC Media player, it uses it's own internal codecs (so it won't modify your system ones) and it will play just about everything, sometimes even if it can't play it the error message will give you something you can Google to find out more.
Once we can verify that the files are indeed playable, we could move on to troubleshooting WMP if necessary.
