Cannot view photos after recover

I inadvertently deleted all photos from my SD card (in Samsung galaxy s7 edge).

Recovery seemed to go okay, everything had a green icon beside it before I hit recover.

However, I cannot view the photos -the file size seems about right and the format is .JPG & .MP4 respectively - but when I click on the the file to open it it says that cannot open as does not support this file format.

it could simple be because the file is corrupted beyond use.

others have reported that trying other image viewing software helped, in particular, IrfanView seems to have good success in opening recovered images.
