If it's the Professional version see if this still works from the previous version they released (it was required I believe for Pro users to do this):
It was the Professional Plus version.The fix Andavari suggests does NOT work - it applies to 5.48 version, not 5.49 and downloads a new install of 5.48.
There is another link, which does work - downloads 5.49 - but it also installs Google Chrome, so beware that unwanted option.

I have this very same issue! Tried several times it looks like it installs but then this error message pops up? Never in several years have had this problem! I clicked on a link here that gave a link to click on to down load from that, but did not work! Uninstalled Periform Ccleaner Program, reinstalled ok, the old version! But would not update to v5.49? How do we fix this???
Free version reports 5.49 update available but download.com serves up the same old release. Unable to upgrade.
Every new version this seems to be repeating and has for at least two years now, it either won't:
* Download.
* Install.
* Or if installed, won't run.
I'd say wait and see if they change the page for the Pro version, and I'll point them to this topic.
If you have Malwarebytes running, disable it during the update process.
disabling malwarebites didn't work for me.... still unable to install latest CC version.
Why on earth is piriform waiting to provide us a link that will solve this update issue? Don't they monitor their own community boards? Terrible customer service.

Admins have been pointed to this issue.
As they haven't made any comments about it yet I can only presume they are working on it.
Thanks Hazelnut.
I'm having this exact problem, it says it's downloaded and installed, but when I run it, it's still 548
Make sure ccleaner isn't running including the system tray where the smart cleaning functions go. Then hit retry
If still no
Try to manually delete c:\program files\ccleaner\ccleaner64.exe
Then hit retry should be fine now
Nergal thanks for your reply. I tried the 1st part. I don't how to do the 2nd part. Not too computer savvy. Do you have a simpler explanation? Do you think piriform will come out with a link for the update like they did in the previous update? Thanks.
There is a way to get it to update, and you won't have to use the failing installer:
1. Make sure CCleaner isn't running by using Task Manager, and kill all running processes belonging to it. Important to do this step if you allow it to have Smart Cleaning running in the background all the time.
2. Download the Portable ZIP from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds
Ignore the animated "Click here to install" thing on the download, it absolutely won't help or do anything in this instance.
3. Only unzip the following files/folders from it: Lang (folder), CCleaner.exe, CCleaner64.exe
4. Move the Lang folder, and both .exe files that were unzipped into the CCleaner program folder
@Andavari Kinda relies on them knowing where the ccleaner program folder is so they might as well do mine
open a file folder.
In the address bar of that folder type c:\program files\ccleaner
Delete ccleaner64.exe
Press retry on the installer
Users should not have to go through all these hassles after each update.
It happens every time now that there is some kind of issue.
About time Piriform/Avast got their act together.
