cannot open start menu or any programs please HELP!

Please help!! I downloaded ccleaner and ran it for the first time yesterday. What a mistake!! Now when I try to click on the start menu it just flashes very quickly but does not open. If I try to open a desktop item I left click and rhe properties window for that program opens. If I right click nothing happens. I can open programs from the task manager but to make matters worse the computer sees the keyboard but it will not type.

So thinking it would be simple enough to do a system restore it appears that ccleaner erased all restore pionts. That really pissed me off!! I did try to restore the reg backup file to no avail. I need any sugestions to get up and running. I need to do my taxes!

Have you restarted you computer lately? Sometimes Windows issues can be fixed simply by restarting. In some cases a cold boot is necessary i.e.; shutdown then start the PC. However with what you describe that sounds like a long shot.

Thanks for chiming in. This has been a wierd one. After just futzing around for a few hours every thing seemed to get better. the only thing I really changed was turning off spybot-sd resident. that may have been the problem. I did restart several times as soon as I found problems. And the only clue is that spybot kept popping up after every change. I am hoping that was the problem before I trash my ccleaner experience.
