Can we trust CC7??

Suddenly a new edition ac CC to v7 was installed and my current CCpro was deactivated during the installation and then I had a free version on the computer???
The free version thought that there were many system drivers that were old. Then I became suspicious and quickly checked with Windows upgrade which showed that no new drivers were available to download. Then checked with PredatorSene upgrade (ACER PREDATOR HELIOS 18) which also showed that no new drivers were available to download.
In addition, I suspected that something shady was happening in the background as there was activity over the Internet which absolutely should not have taken place as there were no ongoing processes other than Ccleaner v7 at the time.
Based on this, letting CC support retrieve data from my platform is unthinkable.
Have used CC both commercially and privately since the first CC release, so for many years. But now I wonder what they are doing in the background and that the Czech Republic is involved with the USA and the NSA pawing at cyber makes me wonder about the hell with TRUMP panting on the EU’s GDPR.

Question: -Why is there information about new drivers in CC when it is not needed according to Microsoft’s update???

Perhaps not; unlike the previous CCleaner versions CCleaner7 no longer tells you on the interface if it’s Free or Professional.
So even though it doesn’t say ‘Professional’ at the top it may still be activated as Professional.
You will need to check in Settings > ‘My Subscription’ to check if it is active as Free or active as Professional.

If it isn’t Pro and you have a valid key then simply enter your key again:

See this for how to check and re-activate if needed:

Hi there, please explain why I was asked to register the product with my current product key even though I had already done so when it was purchased!?

… … and why, according to both ACER and Microsoft, my system is already upgraded in terms of drivers, while CC7 considered many drivers outdated!?

Software Updaters can often know where to look to “see” new software versions before they are widely available.
(There’s at least one website out there that offers new CCleaner version a couple of days before they are oficially released).
Software Updaters can often see new versions when a ‘Check for Updates’ in the application itself doesn’t offer them yet.

Of course they can also make mistakes, or the ‘waiting to be fully released’ new version may get changed at the last minute.

So it’s up to you whether to install the new version that the Software Updater has found, or to wait until it is fully released and more widely available .

PS.

Can we trust CC7??

In my opinion NO.
It is buggy and as things stand at least 2 major features (the new Registry Cleaner, and the new Duplicate Finder) are dangerous for an unwary user to use, we have already seen users break their computers by using those features without care and then having to reinstall Windows and Applications.

PPS. If you are having issues with CCleaner 7 then consider going back to v6.39: How to Roll Back from v7 to v6.39
Follow ALL of the instructions there, particularly about turning off the Automatic Updating and deleting ‘CCupdate.exe’, if you do not follow the instructions then your newly rolled back CCleaner will just update to CCleaner7 again.

I never use any 3rd party Driver Updater* - They only offer the ‘newest’ driver version, they don’t check if that newest version is compatible with you hardware or not - so you take a gamble each time that you use one.

Generally if your machine is working with the drivers that it has then there is no need to change/update them.

*If you have a manufactures app on your computer, eg, something like ‘Lenovo Vantage’ then they do check and only offer you driver updates that are compatible with your machines hardware, so those manufactures apps are generally safe to use

To answer the title, no, I don’t think we can trust CCleaner 7, or even the company behind it. I uninstalled and I’m a long time CCleaner user.

In CC7 they removed the option to quit the app. Imo that can only be for nefarious purposes - the app tries to stay always-on. There is no good reason for them to remove the option to quit the app.

Thanks a lot @matt2 and @nukecad for the answers and tips. I have now reverted to v6.33 and will not use the driver service but will instead rely on the Windows system’s update services
