Can Recuva be used from DOS?

My computer won't boot except into DOS from a floppy or CD, so I can't use Windows for recovery. The problem is in WindowsXP boot files. The MBR has been repaired. All of my previous software (OnTrack, Spinrite, etc.) is too old and will not recognise my USB drive. I have recovered some of my software with purchased software, but not large AVI and or any files over 4 gig. It would limit me to using 28 gig of the 250 gig USB drive (SmartDisk Firelite)...they gave me a refund. Now I need something else and hesitate to spend money on something else which won't work as advertised!

Can Recuva be used from DOS in this situation? If so, how should I go about it?

Peace,

Recuva doesn't work in DOS. To recover your files you could plug that hard disk into another working computer then copy the files to that working computer, or download and make a Linux LiveCD such as Ubuntu to access the data and burn it to a CD however on the affected system that would require two CD/DVD drives one for booting and one for burning.

Or make a free BartPE boot CD with a familiar Windows look and feel and have many recovery options. You could even upload your files to a free file hosting service that you've registered an account on such as MediaFire (100 MB limit per file though).
