Can i install CCleaner without having to uninstall the previous version? Or should i uninstall the old first, then install the new?
Can i install CCleaner without having to uninstall the previous version?
yes
I had fallen into the habit of uninstalling first before updating to a newer version. (before I went to the portable build)
Admittedly 99.6% of the time it is not necessary but there have certainly been occasions when this has been required.
There also are a couple of threads that seem to be having an issue updating to the newest v5.01 and having to uninstall the previous one first.

I think it's good advice to uninstall first, but some of these newer programs (e.g. Malwarebytes) seem to install updates right on top of existing installations. That reminds me, can CCleaner be uninstalled using CCleaner?
Are there any differences in the portable version over these exe versions? With the portable ones, i think you can just delete them..? I would actually prefer that, but only if there were no major sacrifices in features.
No sacrifices at all I run and have always run portable (maybe no monitoring but likely if you're asking, then you don't want monitoring).

can't say I have even thought of that, but then, since CC only calls the program in question normal uninstall process anyway, I don't use CC to uninstall.
why use a third party to do the job when you can do it natively through the software's uninstall or through Control Panel.
my guess is it won't work, it'll call the right uninstall process but probably hang when it finds the program, CC, in use.
there are no differences with the cleaning processes in CC in using the portable version.
and yes, it can simply be deleted as opposed to uninstalled.
Thanks guys for the advice, i really appreciate it
