By default Vista's defragger only recognizes files 64M or smaller. Anyone know if Defraggler is constrained by this limitation or does it defrag everything?
Sorry if this has already been answered. I've read a lot of technical stuff the past couple of days.
I don't have Vista, but a little research tells me that 64mb is the default defrag setting of Vista's built in defragger because Microsoft research shows that there's no performance gain when defragmenting files larger than 64MB in size. There could be an option to change that, but I don't know.
However you can defrag files of any size using Defraggler.
In XP with Defraggler, I've defragged large movie files, 700mb upwards without any problems. I think the only limitation is how much space you have left to enable a defrag of large files.
Generally speaking a defrag app needs about 15% of a drive to successfully defrag, and there's a school of thought which states you need at least as much space as your largest defragmented file.
