Can CCleaner Be Used to Restore my System?

I've managed to do something to hose my laptop. All was working early in this week but I tried a new registry cleaner tool (NOT CCleaner's, I'm ashamed to admit, now  ). Now I can't get my laptop to connect to my network although the router seems to be working just fine. The indication is "Limited or no connectivity" displaying in my wireless network selection panel. Some googling indicated that back in XP SP2 there was a bug related to a (wait for it) Registry Entry!

Since I am no expert on the Registry and seem to be capable of doing gross damage without trying, I don't think I want to try to make registry mods. I thought I'd be able to use the CCleaner tools to restore to a system checkpoint.

Can anyone straighten me out on this? Am I barking up the wrong tree trying to use CCleaner? If so, what should I use? If not, how do I use CCleaner to go back to a system checkpoint?

What's in CCleaner only allows you to remove older restore points, and nothing more.

You need to use Windows' System Restore tool to revert to an earlier system state.
