BSOD Bug Report

Hello users ... I have resently installed the well known app: "CCleaner", after I installed it, I anylized and ran the clean up ... when suddenly I keep getting BSOD (Blue-Screen-Of-Death) about every hour or so when my computer is on. I was just wondering if this is caused by CCleaner changing/deleting a file(s), or just CCleaner installed/running on the PC? or could it be a version Bug that can be fixed?

My operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

My CCleaner version: I am not sure which version of CCleaner i used to have because I have uninstalled it ... But I think it was 3.11 or something (the newest version for late February 2013.

I hope this was enough information and 'Please reply to this as quickly as pissible'.

Oh yea and one more thing ... If I keep getting BSOD will there be any way to fix it appart from formatting the hard drive? (I have done a system restore, uninstaled CCleaner, and currently waiting for yet another possible BSOD).

BSOD caused by the installation/use of the newest version of CCleaner. (BSOD CAUSION CONFIRMED AND LOCKED)

My computer was working perfectly til I got CCleaner.

Cleaning temp files etc from a pc does not normally result in repeated BSOD. You even say you did a system restore to before CCleaner was installed and that you do not have CCleaner installed now.

You need to give a lot more info about your system. What security software do you use? Is it up to date and all scans coming up clean?

Do you have your pc set up in a normal way eg. operating system installed on C drive.

Did you get any info from the Blue Screen?

Perhaps download WhoCrashed and then if you have another BSOD run it and it will tell you possible cause.

Did you just run the cleaner section or did you use the registry integrity section (or anyother ccleaner tools).

when the next BSOD comes (sadly it sounds like it will) note down the second line from the top.

it's not always given but sometimes it displays an english ('ish) sort of error like BAD_BOOT_VOLUME or IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL which can help narrow the problem.

also, down the bottom of the BSOD will be some error codes and usually a file name.

I think getting the BSOD's and installing CCleaner when you did is just a coincidence and not really caused by CCleaner. To me it sounds like you're having some hardware problem or failure.

Some things to check:

  1. Test the system memory using Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic, and let it finish at least 1-Pass. Look at the bottom of this page for running it manually in Win7.
  2. Then run ChkDsk on all installed internal hard disks to find any possible disk errors.

You can also look here for Win7 BSOD's.

I helped this user via skype last night.

He did not run the registry cleaner, and since restoring from system restore, he hadn't encountered any more BSOD's.

10,000 internets for you :)

@winapp2, was there any clues as to the cause?
