btw, what extension did you installed and how much ? I mean in FF or Chrome ?
I have 15-20 ext in FF and needs 4-5 sec to load (cold start) and Chrome needs a sec to load with 5 ext installed.

FF fully customizable, although the number of the extension will reduce the speed to load but no big deal for me.

I've only got three extensions as well. I haven't noticed any browser slowdowns though.
I have netcraft because it's a great security toolbar for phishing attacks.
Grease Monkey so i can add alot more flexibility to my pages, and stop annoying hidden urls.
And dom inspector to help me edit userchrome.css
