Pretty weird but latest version, as of 3 days ago, caused my laptop to freeze @ start of boottime defrag. Cant get into windows 7 x64 anymore and windows 7 startup repair cant fix this. Used defraggler for years, never had this problem. Current laptop is new, no malware etc, and no hard disk issues
Actually if i try to run windows normal it gets to "piriform defraggler" screen for boot time defrag and just freezes
F8 on boot, select safe mode with no networking, CCleaner/Tools/Startup, & disable Startup/IE/Scheduled Tasks you do not need. Including Defraggler. Reboot.
I'm having this same issue, when boot time defrag is started it just sits at:
Piriform Defraggler
----------------------------------------------
Initialized Volume C:
Starting Defragmentation
---------------------------------------------
c:\pagefile.sys
When I try to boot in safe mode, it hangs up and doesn't let me get into Windows 7.
Any other suggestions to try to disable the scheduled task of running the boot time defrag once?
Thanks in advance!
Update: I just left it at the "c:\pagefile.sys" defrag for several hours and it finally moved on and booted successfully. I've never had it take more than a few seconds to do boot time defrag, so this was very perplexing.
Sounds like you need to empty your page files
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314834
(I'd say set it back to zero after done, unless you'd like that emptying to continue)
or if you are unhappy about you or something else adjusting the registry, i've always emptied/defrag'd the pagefile by;
Control Panel, System, System Protection, Advanced tab, Performance, Settings button, Advanced tab, Change, Select 'no pageing file', Set, OK
Reboot, once restarted, go back into Control Panel and turn it back on.
Thanks MTA I searched and search for a non-registry/non-Fix-It-For-Me way to do it but couldn't find one
