Billing Issue

I need to cancel my subscription. They billed me twice and now I cannot reach them to get it resolved. That CHAT does not work. I have sent a dozen emails and filled out forms but get a response saying to go the chat. Terrible customer service I am done with this company.

I was also charged while having auto-renewal disabled! I am trying to contact them as well, but so far nothing worked.

Furthermore, let’s just assume for a second that I did have auto renewal enabled. They sent a notification email that I will be charged on 1/7/2026, however they charged me on 9 Dec, 2025. But, again, I did not have autorenewal enabled!

I tried contacting Cleverbridge too, but of course their contact form is broken as well.

We need to make some noise. This is an abusive behavior. Let’s start sharing this all over the internet, so that others will avoid buying anything from this company.

I’ll start sharing everywhere i can, Google, Facebook, Linkedin, reddit, everywhere. And i am thinking of contacting the authorities as well.

The different dates give a clue to what has probably happened here:

Did you originally pay by PayPal?
Is it Paypay that have charged you this time?

We have seen before where users have cancelled the automatic renewal at CCleaner, but when purchasing CCleaner had ALSO set up a recurring payment with PayPal.
They didn’t even realise that they had set up a PayPal recurring payment, they had not read things properly and just ticked a box when PayPal asked them if they wanted to set one up.

PayPal doesn’t, can’t, know that you have cancelled your automatic renewal with CCleaner - so PayPal will still take the recurring payment.

If this is what has happened to you then you need to cancel the PayPal recurring payment, and get your money back from PayPal.

No. Payment was made using credit card. I don’t use Paypal. Cleverbdige (the payment processor) and CCLeaner simply decided to take my money illegally, despite the fact auto-renewal is and was disabled at the time the charge occured.

And the reason i’m stating that this was a fraudulent / illegal charge is that there are countless reports this entire year alone (on Google, reddit and other places) where this exact thing happened for other people, so even if this was a technical glitch, it wasn’t fixed. Nobody can tell me they don’t know about the issue, as they actually did reply every now and then on different platforms, on similar posts (abviously with a copy-pasted style of message without a resolution or an actual fix).

Cleverbridge contact form (support) doesn’t work, so it’s impossible to contact them.

Nobody responds back from the CCLeaner support either. So the chat - as it is the only way to contact them apparently, is useless.in this case.

These are all telltale signs of a company turned dark and out of control.

This is exactly what happened to me as well.
I am also reporting this to my credit card company as a fraudulent charge. I would rather resolve it with CCleaner; however, they are not responsive.

SAME thing happened to me!!! Same expiring date, same unauthorized charge yesterday!! I am FURIOUS. I’ll contact authorities for sure, as no one seem to reply me in that useless chat!

nukecad, thank you for the suggestion. This is not how I paid either, but this check was helpful.

It looks like CCleaner has been doing this kind of business for some time. Its a shame they are making a bad reputation for themselves.

Ok folks, to do list:

  1. File a complaint at Better Business Bureau (BBB) in the US (even if you’re outside US) at: BBB[.]org (Search for “Cleverbridge” in Chicago, IL)
  2. Send an email to cs[at]cleverbridge[.]com
  3. File a complaint at The European Consumer Centre (ECC), if you are an EU citizen. Do this in the country you reside, ECC has offices in all EU countries.

BBB details

Use postal code 60654 in case you are outside US. This is the postal code of Cleverbridge US. And add a note at the end of your complaint about this. Attach proof of charge and screenshot of your disabled auto-renewal. You can use this template for the complaint:

Subject: Unauthorized charge for cancelled subscription (CCleaner)

Complaint Description:

I am filing a formal complaint regarding an unauthorized charge of [Insert Amount] processed by Cleverbridge on [Insert Date] for a CCleaner subscription renewal (Order Ref: [Insert Order Number if available]).

The Facts:

  1. My subscription was set to expire on [Insert Expiration Date].

  2. I had disabled auto-renewal prior to this expiration date to prevent further charges.

  3. Cleverbridge charged my card on [Insert Charge Date], which is [Number of days] days prior to the actual expiration of the service.

  4. This early charge practice (charging up to 30 days in advance) trapped me into a renewal I had already opted out of.

The Issue: Despite cancelling the auto-renewal, I was charged. I have attempted to resolve this through the provided support channels for both Cleverbridge and CCleaner. Cleverbridge’s system refers me to CCleaner, and CCleaner’s support has been non-responsive/unreachable. I am currently stuck in a support loop with no way to request a refund for a service I clearly cancelled.

Desired Resolution: I am requesting an immediate full refund of [Insert Amount] and written confirmation that my subscription is permanently cancelled and no further charges will occur.

Note: I reside in [country name]. I used the merchant’s zip code 60654 solely to bypass the form’s validation error.

Email to cs[at]cleverbridge[.]com

You can use this template:

Subject: URGENT: Unauthorized Charge - Demand for Refund (GDPR & EU Consumer Rights) - Order [Order Number]

To the Compliance Team at Cleverbridge GmbH:

I am writing regarding Order Reference: [Order Number].

I am a resident of [country]. You have charged me [Amount] on [Date] for a subscription renewal that I had previously disabled.

This charge is unauthorized. By disabling auto-renewal on [Date], I revoked your mandate to charge my payment method. Processing this payment constitutes a violation of my consumer rights under EU Directive 2011/83/EU.

I demand the following immediately:

  1. A full refund of the unauthorized charge.

  2. Immediate deletion of my payment details from your system under Article 17 of the GDPR (Right to Erasure).

If this is not resolved within 3 business days, I will escalate this matter to ECC (European Consumer Centre) and file a formal report with the National Authority for Consumer Protection.

Expecting your immediate confirmation.

After sending the email to the above mentioned address of clevebridge, I have received a reply that the refund has been processed. Of course it’s not instant, they say up to 7 days for the money to actually arrive. But anyway, something happenend and cogs started moving.

There was no mentioning about the reasons as to why this charge happened, or anything related to technical issues in their reply.

Support has also asked for confirmation to delete my account. I made sure my answer was a very firm yes (and why).

For folks wanting an alternative to this software made by this deceptive company (the system cleanup part), try BleachBit.

Anyway, just wanted to let you folks know.

Yep. I encourage everyone to do the same, the more the merrier. Seems that it is working. Nobody wants to mess with ECC, as it doesn’t cost anything to raise a legitimate claim with them, but it can potentially cost a lot the company involved in the claim. They can’t just mess with people’s money, even if it’s 10 cents. They need to be stopped.

How long did it take for them to reply to you?

My issue was slightly different in that I could not log in to disable auto renewal - their system simply did not recognise my reference number that they supplied in the reminder!

Then suddenly a payment is taken, way before renewal.

Attempts to contact, as you all know, are futile. Even their Facebook page is inactive and X profile suspended!

I’ve emailed a similar email to above anyway, slightly reworded… fingers crossed!

Great software… seems a shame they then want to con you when it comes to renewal etc - there is no need for this treatment.

GOOD PRODUCT, BUT THE LACK OF CARING FOR CUSTOMERS OUT WEIGHS THAT. I AM DONE.

Hi @rpa78,
I have sent you a DM for more details on this.
