Best Image/Photo software

I need to put a image/photo program on my computer. I just want a general purpose program. I am looking for suggestion on what would be best.

Depends what you want to use it for. I use Irfanview for for basic photo editing (cropping, levels etc) and GIMP for more serious photoshopping type stuff

Serif do a lot of free software. They list it next to their paid ones of course :) but the free ones are quite good and work well.

I actually know someone who phoned the serif office here in the uk and got a good deal on the phone (?10) for a piece of their paid software and it arrived the next morning

For basic/intermediate photo editing/managing, I always recommend FastStone Image Viewer. It's definitely worth looking at.

Yeah i completely agree that picasa is the best...

I am using it personally and you can even edit pictures on your own...

The free version of PhotoFiltre is pretty good for image editing.

+1 - great program - ton of add-ons I didn't even know about, and make it comparable to Photoshop.
