A Computer Gaming World podcast reveals how retail packages of Battlefield 2142 come with a blurb to inform the buyer that the game comes with monitoring software that will be tracking your online activities.
"When you use the software while connected to the Internet, the advertising technology may record your IP address and other anonymous information," the packaging states. The technology then delivers adverts that may correspond to your tastes, depending on what the spyware learns about you.
Well they should rename the "game" then to Infested Battlefield 2142. Why would anyone buy something infested with spyware in it. I hope the game doesn't do well at all.
In fact this was kind of false warning. Program works only when the BF 2142 is on, and even then only gathers information of already existing in-game ads, like from what angle you view them, how often, and such. There is more information:

The point is there shouldnt be any adWare or SpyWare in the game to begin with! It's hard enought now day just to keep the unknown junk off your system. It will get to the point where you cant even touch your mouse without somebody knowing about it.
I completely agree with that! Even in-game ads shouldn't make their way to real life. What we got then is nothing, as games still cost as much as before. My point anyway was, that this "there is browser-historysupermanipulating spyadwarevirustrojan" (what was on many websites in small time)- thing was a bit of overreaction.

They've actually been there all along but without spyware, for instance in racing car games they show things on billboards like Bridgestone Potenza, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, etc., but then again they're using real-life racing circuits so it's understandable to recreate them accurately.
