Off topic in the lounge is generally a bit more relaxed than elsewhere, though we sometimes get far off "official topic" in places like the winapp2.ini thread.

sorry Mods, it's off topic but a very important community awareness bulletin
We're all guilty of breaking that forum rule.
I agree w/ Winapp, Alan, you should write a book, using any of that stuff that is declassified by now.
In my long ago entomology class, each student made a horrific device called an insect killing jar.
Used a toxic compound in cotton in a plain old glass jar with a lid.
The professor warned us that the compound WILL kill people too, so keep the windows open if we kept the jar in our rooms.
Within 2 weeks a friend of mine lost the jar.

I can't help but think it was stolen by a criminal mastermind.

I wonder what his little sister did with it next.
Well, we never heard any more about it, no missing persons, no unexplained homicides, nobody dropped out of the class, so all went OK, I guess.

Plot twist: His friend was Jimmy Hoffa
One of the widely used toys when I was a kid were marbles.
Many gangs of kids could be seen then lying in the gutters etc trying to win that 'special' marble from the marble king of that day. The marbles were highly and imaginatively coloured and came in a range of sizes. Of course things like drains etc got in the way:)
I cannot see this being allowed today
Although world championships for marbles still take place.
I had some marbles when I was younger, though I never played the game properly.

By the time the 70s roled around I never once saw anyone playing with marbles as a game. In the 70s other kids I'd see with them would more than likely use them via a slingshot to torment other kids.
Ouch, I imagine a glass marble to the back of the skull is not a plesent feeling.
When I was at school the normal games involved accuracy in rolling the marble into a chalk circle on the ground,
or into a small hole in the ground.
Those were gentle games with pretty glass marbles.
One lucky lad had a marble that was twice the normal size.
It was salvaged from a monster sized vehicle ball bearing.
It was a bright shiny indestructible ball bearing.
Any pretty glass marble that rolled across the playground and against a wall was fair game for a destruction derby.
Happy days - for some of us.
I remember bouncing 1st generation Superballs onto 3-story building roofs.
