Backup Files - "error accessing registry"

When I try to merge or import the backup files back to the registry I get "cannot import C:\my documents ..... error accessing registry." I tried a few different things - I'm admin etc. Anyone have some thoughts on this?

What OS are you using?

EDIT: I googled your error a bit, and seems as though your .reg file is messed up. Is it the original file that was created by CCleaner?

Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 I've been using CCleaner on 4 machines for a couple years - the reg files are definately created by it. On this particular machine I have no problems - had a problem last evening with my wife's (same OS) tried to import and no go. I've been googling it for a few hours myself - I think I might be on to something. I'll post back if I find a solution.

run>regedit.exe

file>import

I'm wondering if its a file association thing.

Have you tried right clicking the reg file, select "properties", and see if the "opens with:" dialogue is still "Registry Editor"?

If not, use the "change" button to reset it.
