Have just done deep anti-virus and anti-spyware scans. my anti-spyware program found 'backdoor.win32.small.eva' in my CCleaner program files.
Strange Avast didn't find it. I have deleted what appears to be trojan. Any ideas how it got there.

Must be a false positive. What file was it?
I dunno if this will help. It seems the trojan alert could be generated by a file called uninstall.bak.
If you've any further problems, or doubts about whether it's gone or not, I'd suggest following this link for further assistance.
