Hi everyone,
I’ve been using the free version of CCleaner on my Windows 8.1 machine for years without any problems. However, after upgrading to Windows 10, I started encountering the usual issues—too many background programs running, slowing everything down, etc. So, I decided to download the latest version of CCleaner and upgraded to the Pro version (v6.29.11342, 64-bit) for a single user.
Unfortunately, after following all the steps, CCleaner wrecked my Windows 10 machine. It became completely unusable, and I had to resort to a system restore just to make it somewhat functional again. I’ve already wasted an entire day dealing with the aftermath, and I’m still facing major problems. I’m reaching out for help to get my system back in order.
I suspect that the ‘Update Drivers and Software’ feature might be responsible, as my attempt to restore Windows was only partially successful. It started with Chrome, where the link stopped working, followed by many other programs like Adobe Reader, which I still can’t get to work. While I managed to partially fix Chrome using a standalone setup, certain features (like the ‘new window’ link) are still broken.
Now, I’m worried I’ll have to manually reinstall around 130 programs across three user profiles, which would put me out of business as I rely on this machine to work and earn a living. I also realize I made a mistake during the restoration process by using the restore point from 10/16/2024 (labeled as Install) instead of the one from 10/06/2024.
I’m not tech-savvy and need to make a living; thus, I don’t have time to spend days fixing this. I’d really appreciate any advice on how to avoid this in the future and how to use CCleaner Pro without causing further damage.
Thank you in advance for your time and help!
