There is a couple threads here recently about some uninstall programs. Total Uninstall and Zsoft Uninstall. While searching these two programs on Google I came across a few more free ones and am wondering if anyone has used them and are they any good?
The first one is similar to the above mentioned two. It monitors changes a program makes when installed makes before and after comparisons and you can delete all the changes. It's called My Uninstaller. Here is the link http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-...installer.shtml
The second one is really a replacement for Windows Add/Remove Programs. It's faster and gives much more info and other options like sort order and other things. Funny enough it's also called My Uninstaller. Totally different program though and author/programmer. Here is the link
Never heard of either of them, but then again I haven't been searching for any new uninstallers. They actually don't exactly have the same names though, one is My Uninstaller whilst the other is MyUninstaller - I guess that gap makes the difference but one of them should definitely change names.

I found the second one from The 46 Best Ever Free Ware Utilities List I am sure you heard of. Well the guy who does that list has an extended list 47-103 and it's in that list. Most of the programs he recommends are usually well regarded. Here is the link to the extended list http://www.techsupportalert.com/more/extended.htm
Never heard of them Anthony. The thing that strikes me about the first one at softpedia, is there aren`t any user reviews.
I like to read a few user reviews before trying anything new. (Cowardly I know.)
The second one only runs an applications own uninstall program. Doesn`t seem much point to it really.
I`m leaning more towards Zsoft uninstaller. Total Uninstall always seems to leave a bit of stuff behind, although it does display the paths of what it leaves, if you are comfortable about cleaning them up.

The second one does just run the applications own uninstall. I wasn't looking at it though as a Zsoft or Total Uninstall replacement though. It's really just a replacement for Add/Remove programs. It's pretty good at that though. I have downloaded it. It's tiny and does not require an install. Just unzip it to a folder and your done. It lists everything on your computer. Well more then Add/Remove programs does and has some other useful info as well. Loads much faster than Add/Remove programs does to. It is just a better version of Add/Remove Programs sort of like how Process Explorer is a better version of Task Manager.
As for the other one, yeah not much about it out there thats why I asked about it. Zsoft Uninsatller isn't to well known either though. I never heard about it until it was mentioned on this forum. I am going to try Zsoft though.
I'm liking it so far. I will keep it just for the ability to list installed programs by install date. Can't do that with Add/Remove Programs. Also lists things that Add/Remove doesn't so I can uninstall things that Add/remove can't/won't. Lots of other cool things to.

You've sold me as well. Thanks for that, it does seem genuinely useful. As you say a better and quicker Add/Remove with no install. Looks good.
Play around with Zsoft Uninstaller for a bit. Even if you don't use it to uninstall, I'm sure you'll be impressed when looking the at the log files it creates when you use it to analyze an install.
I've been using it and if I ever think there's a bug, I post it to the forum and the author responds very quickly.
Programmers like this should get grants and help from Microsoft. A registry uninstaller is essential, as most programs leave residue all over the registry and in some instances, the OS directory.
The one thing these programs can't do is uninstall additional strings and files that have been created by automatic upgrades, or at least I think they can't.

BrownSugar, these programs can uninstall automatic upgrades'changes! You need to analyze before the upgrade and after installation'upgrade. Of course you stay tired to do that always... And I think that doesn't matter too much.
I do that with those app. that are installed online (ActiveX based installation) - because many haven't uninstaller's... and modify too much...

You can analyze the upgrade if you have control of the upgrade procedure. Programs that perform automatic upgrades won't give you the chance to analyze before the upgrade. You have to ensure that you've set every program you have to manually upgrade, so that you can run Zsoft Uninstaller or Total Uninstall before the upgrade starts.

I not sure I understand how that works for Zsoft Uninstaller? Lets say you have analyzed your install of Firefox. Zsoft creates the log file showing the things added to your system from the install. Now Firefox has an update. You analyze again before the update and create another log file for the update? Than if you decide to uninstall Firefox you select uninstall for both those entries? Is that how it works for updates?
That's what I used to do with Firefox, I'd track the main app installation, then if there were updates I'd have a tracked installation of that too. Although I must say I've never used the Firefox tracked installation to remove it, but I suppose most or all of it could be gotten rid of however Firefox is a rather tame app to remove it doesn't place files in places that are hard to locate.
Now something like K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is a pain to remove, the reason being some of it's tools don't add any registry settings until they're individually launched which can leave some undesirables behind which weren't seen by the tracking uninstaller. That's the only downfall of using an uninstaller, you literally have to launch all add-on tools that may come with an app like K-Lite so as to not miss anything when doing the final analysis.

What program where you using to track the installs? Zsoft or TU? Just curious why you tracked the installs and updates but did not use it to remove the install.

I originally used Total Uninstall to track the installs, but now I've switched over completely to ZSoft Uninstaller. I never used the tracked installs of Firefox because I never uninstalled Firefox.
