Another privacy question

I haven't read all of the forums or the help files cover-to-cover, but I've meandered through them and haven't found an answer to this question.

In my case, the "Cookies to Delete" field (Options tab > Cookies) has addresses in it that I want to remove from the field. This is for a variety of privacy reasons -- I haven't frequented terrorist sites or anything like that. :o (Although there is also a site that I ended up on inadvertently and would like to remove.) Note that I'm not saying that I want to delete cookies from these sites, but that I want to remove the sites' addresses from the "Cookies to Delete" list box.

There must be a way to do this. This is a product whose purpose is to protect privacy, among other things. It seems strange to me that anyone could run the program and see a list of sites that I've been on just by looking at that "Cookies to Delete" list box.

In the cookies view click on the cookie on the right ( Cookies to Keep ) then click on <- to move it to the left ( Cookies to Delete ) then Run Cleaner.

I usually reboot to refresh the index.dat files.

I have read your post from cover to cover and I still can't quite grasp what you mean.

If you want to protect your privacy then removing cookies from CC's list but not removing them from your disk is not the way to do it.

You can of course delete cookies in the list by ticking the Cookies box in Cleaner/Windows/Internet Explorer and/or Cleaner/Applications/Firefox or whatever, and runnning CCleaner.

Unless you run CC after every session on your pc there will be many ways in which the casual observer can see where you've been.

it's convoluted but I think the OP wishes to keep the cookies but have the names not be visible to a prying nosy person. I think a scenario (I mean one that maybe isn't OP's problem but close enuff for some one here to help him/her) that would be equivalent to the poster's would be:

User is a frequent visitor of certain adult sites.

User's Wife is highly against his use of pornography and will often check through his cookie files for names like dome.org and Ilikesmallb00bies.com :P

user needs to keep his cookies because he has set up the sites the way he likes them but wife uses CCleaner and can see the names.

User wants to hide the names of these sites from her with out killing the cookies.

THIS IS NOT (AFAIK) Something CCleaner can do. In fact it's very unlikely that anything can after all the Sites use these file names to tell it what to do.

My Opinion is user needs to get a Flash memory stick, password protect it and use a portable web browser. or better yet, get a new WIFE B)

If the hypothetical wife is savvy enough to use CC to view cookies she will soon find another way to root out his browsing activity.

Set up a Limited User account for the wife and password protect his own.

My Opinion is user needs to get a Flash memory stick, password protect it and use a portable web browser.
That sounds like a good solution.

Ack! Augeas was right, and the solution was obvious. He said:

The reason I asked the question on the forum was because I could swear that I ran CCleaner specifically to see if that would clear out the list of cookies to delete, but it didn't. Obviously I must have made some simple mistake; maybe I had the Firefox check box accidentally unchecked. Duh.

In any event, all I wanted to do was what my question asked: to clear out the "Cookies to Delete" field. Everyone over-thought the question because they couldn't imagine that anyone would ask such an obvious question!...but I did.

Thanks a lot for all your comments. It was amusing to read the creative interpretations of what I might have been up to!

I'm having an identical problem using cc. The cookies have been deleted with the cleaning function for both my browsers. As the original poster stated, the cookies to be deleted section remains in view. Despite the fact that the cookies are already erased, the list remains. This isn't complicated. I've read this thread and also another dealing with this exact issue. I am uncertain why nobody has actually answered the simple question of how to remove the list of already deleted cookies. And no, I'm not married. I just don't want to look at a list of already deleted cookies. After unistalling/reinstalling cc a number of times, the same exact list of already deleted cookies remains. Will they always be there or is there an exact way to remove the "ghost list" of already deleted cookies permanently? There is absolutely no reason to overthink this. I have a feeling cc is glitched and holding on to the previously deleted list for another reason that isn't so obvious.

You are right it is a simple question.

The answer may not be so simple and that is why we need your input.

These questions also stimulate your thought processes. Sometimes we forget the basics and sometimes it is a software conflict or such.

The following info will help others to come up with a solution.

These answers help to evaluate the problem.Provide as much information and detail as you can.

Just fill in the answers next to or below the questions?

Are all other programs including browsers completely closed and not running when you run CCleaner?

(This does not include your Firewall or A/V program but sometimes these can cause CCleaner to not perform as expected.)

Did you reboot after installing CCleaner before trying to run it?

Did you do any Registry issues fixing?

Do you continue to scan for issues until no more are found?

Did you do any software or hardware changes installs or uninstalls?

If any changes then have you checked with those forums or manufacturers?

What happens if you disable those changes?

Are you running with Administrator privileges.

CCleaner version ?

What Language did you request at install,if any?

OS,edition ,32bit or 64bit and version ?

Browsers and ver.?

Security software and ver?

Do you use Zone Alarm? There have been conflicts in the past.

Other data you think might be relevant?

What did you do and then what happened?

Provide a list of your CCleaner.ini file.( Tick option for Save settings to INI file at Options > Advanced then close CCleaner.This file will be created in C:\Program Files\CCleaner folder.)

Edit out any Personal info with XXXs Do not delete anything, please.

Are you using a winapp2.ini file?

Answer "Yes" if you do and please explain its contents or provide a brief listing.Otherwise answer "No". If you don't know what this file is then answer NO.

In this situation how have you determined that the "Cookies" are erased and from where?

Have you done a complete system "Search" for "cookies" ? It is possible to have old browser files that are left behind, etc. or they have not been cleaned as you may think.

I am uncertain why nobody has actually answered the simple question of how to remove the list of already deleted cookies.

Possibly becaue even with an apparently simple question it is sometimes difficult to interpret the poster's actual meaning.

When I run CC in Analyse mode I get a list of cookies marked for deletion, along with other files. I then press Run Cleaner and the list remains, with the word 'Removed' against them. If I rerun Analyse, or close CC then reopen and run Analyse, the cookies have gone. I do need to have closed FF though to run CC.

This is normal behaviour to me. Is this what you mean?

you actually may be piggybacking onto this topic (see question two statement one)

Echo please answer yes or no in the order given

1) you have cookies in the left hand bar?

2) you have cookies selected in the cleaner part of CCleaner (see picture 1)? this may be a stupid sounding question but if you read above you will notice that this WAS the problem that the OP actually had.

Ack! Augeas was right, and the solution was obvious. He said:

3. Are all of your ie instances closed (close all open browser windows go into task manager (processes page) and make sure there are no iexplore or ieuser running if there are end them) then run CCleaner and see if you still have this issue)
