Adware warning on download

I just installed CCleaner. When I clicked the download, Google Chrome gave me a warning that "This type of software can harm your computer." I'm new to Chrome so maybe it says that about all .exe files. My wife had CCleaner installed by Best Buy, so I continued.

During installation, my Symantec system protector gave me the following notice:

Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan

Event: Risk Found!

Risk: Adware.CWSIEFeats

File: C:\Users\Mitch\AppData\Local\Temp\xtcG0kIq.exe.part

Location: C:\Users\Mitch\AppData\Local\Temp

Computer: PORTABLE-OFFICE

User: Mitch

Action taken: Pending Side Effects Analysis : Access denied

Date found: April-11-10 9:12:36 PM

Apparently, this file piggybacked on the download. Good going, Chrome. Good going Symantec. I'm going to reboot now to see if it was worth it!

Nothing new really with the setup being flagged as there's always a false positive popping up.

If you didn't download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com, http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner, or http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner who's to know what you've gotten since there are rip-off versions.

Or if you downloaded from one of the official download sites listed above what your av may be detecting is the Yahoo Toolbar, since some antivirus may deem toolbars as a risk and flag them however you can always opt out.

If my wife installed something, or had Best Buy etc. install it,

I would wait for a good moment and cautiously ask her what its purpose was.

Then when she was not looking I would quickly restore back to a known good condition,

and carefully re-install it properly just to be sure ! ! !

You Sir are a man after my own heart !

Or have I misunderstood ?
