The claim is that this blocks ads for multiple browsers + multiple IM clients, etc.

I believe they inject adservers to block into the system HOSTS file.

Would've sounded very tempting to me 10 years ago. Nowadays I only use the HOSTS file and AdBlock Plus.

I am still using the Proxomitron Naoko 4.5 here, but I also have adblock plus on Firefox.
